Let\u2019s rewind for a second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Warning to Gun Owners with Pistol Braces\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R-18Cm_6hd4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pistol braces <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/grieve-pistol-braces-felonies-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pistol-braces-are-dead-except-theyre-not\" title=\"Pistol Braces Are 'Dead'\u2026 Except They\u2019re Not?\">were<\/a> originally approved by the ATF back in 2012 as a way to help disabled shooters (especially veterans) handle firearms more effectively. For years, they were perfectly legal, widely used, and openly sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then came the flip.  In 2021, the ATF, under the Biden administration, decided that many of those same <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ak-47-hog-blaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pistol-braces-are-dead-except-theyre-not\" title=\"Pistol Braces Are 'Dead'\u2026 Except They\u2019re Not?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4010\">firearms could now be classified as short-barreled rifles<\/a> under the National Firearms Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Translation?  Potential felony: unless you registered it, paid up, and jumped through the usual federal hoops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That put millions of gun owners in a legal gray zone overnight.  GOA didn\u2019t sit on the sidelines. They sued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in <em>Texas v. ATF<\/em>, they secured an injunction protecting GOA members and Texas residents, while other lawsuits across the country made the rule nearly impossible to enforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then came what looked like the knockout punch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2025, the Trump administration signaled it would roll back Biden-era gun policies. The DOJ even declined to defend parts of the brace rule in court, which left many thinking the whole thing was effectively dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case closed\u2026 right?  Not so fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to GOA, the Department of Justice admitted in March 2026 that, even with the Biden rule gone, the ATF is still enforcing NFA and <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/bigger-is-better-glock-40-gen4-mos-10mm\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pistol-braces-are-dead-except-theyre-not\" title=\"Pistol Braces Are 'Dead'\u2026 Except They\u2019re Not?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4011\">Gun Control Act regulations against <em>some<\/em> braced pistols<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s the kicker:  Nobody seems willing to say which ones.  Seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GOA says when they pressed the ATF for clarity, the agency refused to provide guidance, and even suggested that <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/beautiful-beretta-new-692-sporting-b-fast-overunder-shotgun\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pistol-braces-are-dead-except-theyre-not\" title=\"Pistol Braces Are 'Dead'\u2026 Except They\u2019re Not?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4012\">gun owners might not find out their firearm<\/a> is \u201cillegal\u201d until they\u2019re facing charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-nbsp-pistol-braces-are-felonies-again\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/grieve-pistol-braces-felonies-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pistol-braces-are-dead-except-theyre-not\" title=\"Pistol Braces Are 'Dead'\u2026 Except They\u2019re Not?\">&nbsp;Pistol Braces Are Felonies AGAIN?<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not a gray area.  That\u2019s a minefield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think about it. You could be sitting on a firearm that was legal yesterday, bought in good faith, and still have no idea whether it\u2019s suddenly a problem, until it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, GOA is calling out what it sees as a pretty obvious contradiction.  Campaign promises were made to scrap these rules. Public signals suggested the fight was over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But behind the scenes?  Enforcement is still happening.  Quietly.  Selectively.  And without clear standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GOA\u2019s message right now is simple: proceed with caution.  They\u2019re also pushing the administration to make it official, once and for all, that brace-equipped pistols are legal and to end what they describe as ongoing regulatory whiplash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because here\u2019s the reality.  It\u2019s 2026.  The <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/push-congress-to-repeal-nfa-taxes-regs-by-july-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pistol-braces-are-dead-except-theyre-not\" title=\"Pistol Braces Are 'Dead'\u2026 Except They\u2019re Not?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4013\">NFA tax<\/a> on short-barreled rifles is effectively zero.  And yet, somehow, we\u2019re still arguing over <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/find-barrel-length-best-ar\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"pistol-braces-are-dead-except-theyre-not\" title=\"Pistol Braces Are 'Dead'\u2026 Except They\u2019re Not?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4014\">barrel length<\/a> and pieces of plastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GOA says the fight isn\u2019t over and they\u2019re still in court trying to shut the door on this issue permanently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until that happens?  Gun owners are stuck in limbo.
