The measure cleared the Senate in a 26-10 vote after passing the House 88-20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"What Florida Lawmakers Chose to Pass This Session\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CRh2EWVWDNc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) is giving the move a full endorsement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CCRKBA Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/saf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"florida-advances-campus-carry\" title=\"Florida Advances Campus Carry\">Alan Gottlieb <\/a>called the legislation a \u201cmuch needed step toward improving campus security,\u201d pointing to years of failed \u201cgun-free zone\u201d policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis legislation expands the state\u2019s Guardian Program to colleges and universities, and that\u2019s a good thing,\u201d Gottlieb said. \u201cWe\u2019ve tried so-called \u2018gun-free zone\u2019 campuses and it\u2019s been a failure\u2026 It\u2019s time to think out of that restrictive box and try a different approach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That \u201cdifferent approach\u201d centers on trained, volunteer faculty and staff (people already on campus) who can respond immediately if something goes wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-colt-s-blued-python-is-back-and-it-still-bites\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/colt-blued-python-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"florida-advances-campus-carry\" title=\"Florida Advances Campus Carry\">Colt\u2019s Blued Python Is Back and It Still Bites<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s really the heart of the argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because when seconds count, campus police (if they\u2019re even nearby) are still minutes away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gottlieb didn\u2019t hold back on critics either, taking aim at what he described as years of ineffective policy pushed by anti-gun lawmakers and academics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor years, we\u2019ve watched the hand-wringing and head-shaking over attacks on college campuses,\u201d he said. \u201cAll that accomplished was to fool the public into believing some action had been taken while the body counts climbed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under HB 757, participation wouldn\u2019t be mandatory. Faculty and staff would have to volunteer and undergo training, adding what supporters call another layer of defense.  Not replacing existing security, but reinforcing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gottlieb framed it as a shift away from what he sees as unrealistic policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe can no longer afford to entertain the anti-gun sympathies of ivory tower ideologues,\u201d he said. \u201cColleges and universities are not immune from violent crime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That last point is hard to ignore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent campus incidents across the country, including high-profile shootings, have reignited debate over whether \u201cgun-free zones\u201d actually deter violence\u2026 or simply leave soft targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Florida lawmakers are betting on the latter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the question is whether other states follow suit or double down on
