And everyone knows why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a sweeping \u201cassault weapon\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/virginia-passes-assault-weapon-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-shops-virginia-ban-looms\" title=\"Gun Shops Flooded as Virginia Ban Looms\">ban<\/a> now headed to the governor\u2019s desk, customers are rushing in, wallets open, trying to beat the clock before new restrictions hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gun sales surge at Virginia stores as assault weapons ban heads to Governor Spanberger\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JQbo86mdgZU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inside shops across the state, it\u2019s akin to standing room only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have more customers. We have parking issues because of it,\u201d one gun store owner told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/wset.com\/news\/local\/gun-stores-see-sales-surge-as-assault-weapons-ban-heads-to-governor-march-2026\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-shops-virginia-ban-looms\" title=\"Gun Shops Flooded as Virginia Ban Looms\">ABC 13<\/a><\/em>. \u201cPeople come by and say they have to pass four times before they can find a parking place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not hype.  That\u2019s panic buying in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legislation, <a href=\"https:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/bill-details\/20261\/HB217\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-shops-virginia-ban-looms\" title=\"Gun Shops Flooded as Virginia Ban Looms\">House Bill 217<\/a>, would ban commonly owned semi-automatic firearms along with magazines holding more than 15 rounds if signed into law. And with a potential July start date, the countdown is already on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Customers aren\u2019t browsing.  They\u2019re buying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Store owners say the trend is clear: people are grabbing what they think they won\u2019t be able to get later. Rifles chambered in larger calibers like .308 are flying off shelves, especially among buyers who already own AR-style <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/sw-mp15-sport-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-shops-virginia-ban-looms\" title=\"Gun Shops Flooded as Virginia Ban Looms\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3919\">rifles in 5.56<\/a> and want something different before restrictions hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople show up, they buy it, and they leave,\u201d another shop owner said. \u201cIt\u2019s great. But it\u2019s only going to be great for a period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-virginia-passes-assault-weapon-ban-clock-starts-ticking-to-july-1\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/virginia-passes-assault-weapon-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-shops-virginia-ban-looms\" title=\"Gun Shops Flooded as Virginia Ban Looms\">Virginia Passes Assault Weapon Ban: Clock Starts Ticking to July 1<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s the part nobody in the industry is celebrating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because behind the surge in sales is a looming reality: if this <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/guns-campus-bill-will-become-law-tennessee\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-shops-virginia-ban-looms\" title=\"Gun Shops Flooded as Virginia Ban Looms\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3920\">bill becomes law<\/a>, a massive chunk of inventory disappears overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One dealer says the ban could wipe out 65% of what he sells. Another estimates it could hit as much as 90% of his business.  That\u2019s not a slowdown. That\u2019s a gut punch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the customer side, the mood is a mix of urgency and disbelief.  Some are betting the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-hails-high-courts-decision-to-move-ny-gun-law-challenge-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"gun-shops-virginia-ban-looms\" title=\"Gun Shops Flooded as Virginia Ban Looms\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3922\">law won\u2019t survive court challenges<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not concerned because I believe it\u2019s unconstitutional,\u201d one buyer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others are more focused on why they own firearms in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo protect your house\u2026 especially if you\u2019re a widow,\u201d a female customer explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That theme keeps coming up: protection, not politics.
