And according to Colion Noir, sometimes it\u2019s aimed in the wrong direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a recent breakdown, Noir took aim at a prosecutor\u2019s comments following a terrorist shooting.  Comments that didn\u2019t focus on the attacker, but instead blamed millions of <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/bidens-pardon-of-hunter-a-slap-in-the-face-to-every-law-abiding-gun-owner\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"break-cult-gun-absolutism\" title=\"Prosecutor: We need to break the 'cult of gun absolutism'\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3910\">law-abiding gun owners<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"They Say We Care More About Guns Than Kids\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Jup2C2KIWeg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u201cUntil there is the political will to break the spell of the cult of gun absolutism, you will see more incidents like this. So if you are looking for somebody to blame\u2026 look at our lawmakers\u2026 look to a Supreme Court that enables them.\u201d &#8212; Ramin Fatehi, Norfolk Commonwealth&#8217;s Attorney. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The claim?  <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/1000-yards-500-rifle-rugers-american-predator\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"break-cult-gun-absolutism\" title=\"Prosecutor: We need to break the 'cult of gun absolutism'\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3909\">Americans \u201ccare more about guns<\/a> than they care about six-year-old children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Noir didn\u2019t hold back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He called the argument what it is: emotional manipulation dressed up as moral outrage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then he dismantled it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Noir, the framing is designed to trap people into a false choice: either support <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/house-passes-sweeping-gun-control-package\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"break-cult-gun-absolutism\" title=\"Prosecutor: We need to break the 'cult of gun absolutism'\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3911\">sweeping gun control<\/a> or be labeled as someone who doesn\u2019t care about children. It\u2019s the opposite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMillions of Americans have guns to protect themselves and the people they love,\u201d Noir explained. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean they don\u2019t care about children. It means they refuse to be powerless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He compared the logic to blaming car owners for traffic fatalities, an argument that sounds absurd the moment you remove the emotional packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Noir says that\u2019s exactly the point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rhetoric isn\u2019t meant to be logical. It\u2019s meant to be powerful, emotional, and disarming in a debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in this case, he says it also conveniently ignores the actual threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspect in the attack had reportedly previously pleaded guilty to trying to assist ISIS.  A detail Noir says should be front and center. Instead, the focus shifted almost immediately to gun owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot the terrorist. Not the extremist. And, not the person who pulled the trigger,\u201d Noir said. \u201cYou.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That shift, he argues, is why honest conversations about gun rights are so difficult. One side is arguing from constitutional principles and personal responsibility. The other is using emotion to frame the debate before it even starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it doesn\u2019t stop at the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Noir warned that once rights start getting traded away in the name of safety, it rarely ends with just one. Not to individual citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, the deal being offered is simple but flawed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give up your ability to defend yourself\u2026 in exchange for protection that isn\u2019t guaranteed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a trade <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/noir-buying-a-gun-isnt-like-buying-gum\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"break-cult-gun-absolutism\" title=\"Prosecutor: We need to break the 'cult of gun absolutism'\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3912\">Noir isn\u2019t buying<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He closed by flipping the original accusation on its head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea that gun owners don\u2019t care about children, he argued, isn\u2019t just wrong.
