Not so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That divide is exactly what Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) says he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lee.senate.gov\/2026\/3\/lee-introduces-national-constitutional-carry-act\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"national-constitutional-carry-act-introduced-2\" title=\"National Constitutional Carry Act Introduced! Permitless Carry, Coast to Coast?\">wants<\/a> to end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 5, Lee introduced the National Constitutional Carry Act, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lee.senate.gov\/services\/files\/D4966047-CA02-40DC-93F0-9C278C92E5AC\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"national-constitutional-carry-act-introduced-2\" title=\"National Constitutional Carry Act Introduced! Permitless Carry, Coast to Coast?\">bill<\/a> that would establish nationwide permitless carry for law-abiding Americans. Permitless Carry, Coast to Coast?\" data-level=\"2\">Bottom Line<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-the-bill-would-do\">What the Bill Would Do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Lee\u2019s office, the bill would:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Allow anyone legally eligible to own a firearm to carry it nationwide without a permit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preempt state and local permitting schemes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protect the right to carry firearms, ammunition, and magazines without arbitrary restrictions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Override many state-level \u201cgun-free zone\u201d rules<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee framed it plainly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe Founders established a national right to keep and bear arms, not to ask for permission from hostile local officials, or risk imprisonment for crossing the wrong state line.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, your rights shouldn\u2019t disappear when you cross into New Jersey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-goa-and-nagr-jump-in\">GOA and NAGR Jump In<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill is backed by Gun Owners of America (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunowners.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"national-constitutional-carry-act-introduced-2\" title=\"National Constitutional Carry Act Introduced! Permitless Carry, Coast to Coast?\">GOA<\/a>) and the National Association for Gun Rights (<a href=\"https:\/\/gunrights.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"national-constitutional-carry-act-introduced-2\" title=\"National Constitutional Carry Act Introduced! Permitless Carry, Coast to Coast?\">NAGR<\/a>). Two groups that don\u2019t throw around \u201creal constitutional carry\u201d endorsements lightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Erich Pratt, Senior VP at GOA, said the legislation would restore the right to carry \u201cwithout a government permission slip\u201d and preempt unconstitutional state regulations on firearms, ammunition, and magazine size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAGR echoed that sentiment, calling it the only bill that would ensure law-abiding Americans can carry in every state, regardless of local politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-now\">Why Now?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Supporters argue the timing isn\u2019t random.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In GOA\u2019s breakdown, they point to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rising concerns about narco-terror violence near the southern border<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lone-wolf attacks tied to foreign conflicts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High-profile attacks in areas with strict carry restrictions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The argument goes like this: police response times, even when fast, are rarely instantaneous. Opponents will likely argue this is federal overreach into state police powers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And let\u2019s be real, this bill faces an uphill climb in a divided Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But as a marker bill?
