I really do,\u201d LaGrand said during a public discussion, comparing gun ownership to smoking and arguing communities should start \u201chaving some shaming around gun possession.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He doubled down, acknowledging the Second Amendment exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201cI get that we got a Second Amendment&#8221; &#8212; but insisting gun owners should still feel shame because, in his view, guns are \u201cfor killing human beings,\u201d not everyday tasks like gardening or changing a tire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mayor Says If You Own A Gun, You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourself\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YQt5VBOJ68I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That didn\u2019t sit well with Colion Noir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a fiery response, Noir called the mayor\u2019s comments \u201cchildish\u201d and disconnected from reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t own a gun to change a tire,\u201d Noir said. \u201cYou own a gun for the worst day of your life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Noir argued that shaming won\u2019t touch criminals, only law-abiding citizens. \u201cYou know who shame works on? Law-abiding people. That\u2019s it,\u201d he said. \u201cSo you\u2019re not talking to criminals. You\u2019re talking to fathers. Mothers. People who just want to protect themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LaGrand compared gun ownership to cigarette use, saying he sees \u201cso much more harm done than benefit.\u201d Noir dismissed that analogy outright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSmoking provides literally no benefit. None,\u201d Noir said. \u201cSelf-defense does. Protecting your kids does.
