Springfield Armory<\/a> is moving quickly to support the Aimpoint COA<\/a> optic, adding factory A\u2011Plate slide cuts across several pistol lines starting in March.<\/p>\n\n\n

What\u2019s Changing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beginning in March, Springfield will have all Echelon pistols, along with the 1911 Operator, 1911 Emissary, and Prodigy, available with factory slide cuts designed for the Aimpoint COA. Buyers will also be able to order these pistols pre\u2011mounted with the optic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Springfield says purchasing the gun with the optic<\/a> installed can save up to $150 compared to buying the components separately.<\/p>\n\n\n

Why This Is Happening Now<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The move follows the end of Glock\u2019s exclusivity period with the Aimpoint COA mounting system. With that restriction lifted, Springfield is among the first manufacturers to offer<\/a> broad, factory\u2011level COA support across multiple platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than limiting the cut to a single model, Springfield applied it across striker\u2011fired pistols<\/a>, double\u2011stack 1911s, and traditional 1911s, signaling a deliberate push for consistency.<\/p>\n\n\n

Why the COA Mounting System Matters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unlike plate systems that rely primarily on screws, the Aimpoint COA uses a forward toe that bears directly against the slide cut. This design spreads recoil forces into the slide itself instead of concentrating stress on fasteners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That approach allows the optic to sit lower, reduces part count, and limits interfaces that can loosen over time<\/a>. A lower mount also supports a more natural presentation and keeps iron sights<\/a> more usable as backups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
