In an effort to get candidates for political office to disclose how they feel about tougher gun laws, Everytown for Gun Safety unveiled a survey last month called the “Gun Sense Voter Federal Candidate Questionnaire<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Now that the questionnaire — which inquires mainly about where a candidate stands with respect to expanded background checks that would include private transfers, particularly those made over the Internet and at gun shows — has been disseminated to politicians around the country, Everytown wants answers.<\/p>\n

To get those answers, Michael Bloomberg’s gun-control outfit wants the public to pressure politicians into responding to those questions by any means necessary, e.g. social media, phone, email, etc.<\/p>\n

To that end, Richard Martinez, whose son Christopher was slain during the Isla Vista, California, spree killing in May, penned this open letter:<\/p>\n

Addressee,<\/em><\/p>\n

After my son, Christopher Ross Michaels-Martinez, was shot and killed near UC Santa Barbara in May, I pledged to do everything I could to hold elected officials accountable for passing stronger gun laws<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

If candidates for federal office want our votes, they have to make their positions clear on common-sense gun laws.<\/em><\/p>\n

You can help by asking the candidates in your area where they stand on ten key solutions to gun<\/a> violence in America. All they have to do is fill out the Gun Sense Voter Questionnaire.<\/em><\/p>\n

We know where the public stands on common-sense gun laws. More than 90 percent of Americans support background checks on all gun sales.<\/em><\/p>\n

Once we know where our candidates stand on these issues, we’ll combine that information with their prior statements, votes and co-sponsorships to mobilize Americans to support or oppose them at the ballot box this November and beyond.<\/em><\/p>\n

But we can’t just assume candidates will respond unless we tell them to.<\/em><\/p>\n
