The FN 309 MRD is a budget-focused, optics-ready 9mm pistol designed to be easy to shoot, easy to own, and easier on the wallet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

FN developed it using direct customer feedback, especially from newer and value-driven shooters. The result is a simplified carry pistol that trims cost without stripping out features that matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FN officially showed the 309 MRD at SHOT Show 2026, positioning it below the FN 509 line while keeping familiar ergonomics, felt recoil, and reliability. MSRP lands at $549, with availability starting now and a wider retail presence expected by the end of the quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design Goals: Accessible and Approachable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

FN built the 309 MRD around approachability. The grip texture feels noticeably less aggressive than the FN 509, but it still provides solid control. FN aimed this change at shooters who want comfort during longer range sessions, without snagging on their shirt while concealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pistol uses an internal hammer-fired, single-action-only system with a trigger pull of around five pounds. FN retained multiple internal safeties, even though the trigger blade is shrouded and less visible. A manual safety version<\/a> is also planned for somewhere down the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Optics-Ready Without the Plate Stack<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The FN 309 MRD skips a modular plate system entirely. Instead, it direct-mounts optics using Shield RMS and Leupold DeltaPoint Pro<\/a> footprints. That choice keeps costs down for the end user and simplifies setup for new shooters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polymer sights<\/a> come standard, with a green fiber-optic front and U-notch rear. FN kept the same dovetail as the FN 509, opening the door to existing aftermarket and OEM metal sight upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
