That\u2019s not a hiccup. That\u2019s a face-plant. And it perfectly illustrates why this entire program was doomed from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Why Canada\u2019s gun buyback program is getting support and scrutiny in Quebec\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_GaRfCcTVQU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><strong>Would you comply with a gov&#8217;t &#8220;buyback&#8221; program? <\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (<a href=\"https:\/\/ccrkba.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canadas-gun-buyback-is-failing\" title=\"Canada\u2019s Gun Buyback Is Failing\">CCRKBA<\/a>), this so-called buyback is nothing more than <em>compensated confiscation<\/em>. The government didn\u2019t own these firearms. It didn\u2019t manufacture them. It didn\u2019t sell them. Yet it now demands lawful owners surrender them or face criminal penalties because a bureaucrat slapped an \u201cassault-style\u201d label on more than 2,500 models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calling that a \u201cbuyback\u201d isn\u2019t just misleading. It\u2019s dishonest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>CBC\u2019s<\/em> reporting confirms what <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/atf-needs-to-answer-these-questions-concerning-its-knock-and-talk-visits-with-gun-owners-says-senator\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canadas-gun-buyback-is-failing\" title=\"Canada\u2019s Gun Buyback Is Failing\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2593\">gun owners have been saying<\/a> all along. The program only targets legally owned, registered firearms.  Not smuggled guns, not gang weapons, not black-market pistols driving violent crime in Montreal or Toronto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the <em>CBC<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/gun-buyback-pilot-expansion-anandasangaree-9.7042380\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canadas-gun-buyback-is-failing\" title=\"Canada\u2019s Gun Buyback Is Failing\">report<\/a> openly acknowledges the central flaw: to believe this program improves public safety, you\u2019d have to believe licensed Canadian gun owners are responsible for rising gang violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-fn-rebuilds-the-scar\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/fn-rebuilds-scar\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canadas-gun-buyback-is-failing\" title=\"Canada\u2019s Gun Buyback Is Failing\">FN Rebuilds the SCAR<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even worse, enforcement appears optional in practice. A leaked recording caught the federal minister responsible admitting municipal police don\u2019t have the resources to enforce the program.  And that it was pushed largely to appease Quebec voters. That\u2019s not public safety policy. That\u2019s political theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the logistics? A nightmare. Provinces are refusing to participate. Police agencies don\u2019t want the job. The Nova Scotia pilot already failed. Yet Ottawa insists everything just needs \u201cclarification,\u201d as if Canadians didn\u2019t understand the instructions well enough to surrender property they lawfully own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/lott-vs-gun-control-advocates-a-1000-bet-on-brazils-crime-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canadas-gun-buyback-is-failing\" title=\"Canada\u2019s Gun Buyback Is Failing\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2590\">Gun control advocates argue the goal isn\u2019t stopping all crime<\/a>.  It\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/5-dumbest-recommendations-prevent-gun-violence-stop-mass-shootings\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canadas-gun-buyback-is-failing\" title=\"Canada\u2019s Gun Buyback Is Failing\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2592\">preventing mass shootings<\/a>. But even by that narrow metric, the policy makes no sense. Confiscating <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/ak-47-hog-blaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canadas-gun-buyback-is-failing\" title=\"Canada\u2019s Gun Buyback Is Failing\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2589\">hunting rifles and competition firearms while illegal guns<\/a> continue flowing across borders doesn\u2019t reduce risk. It just punishes compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real message here isn\u2019t subtle. <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/bidens-pardon-of-hunter-a-slap-in-the-face-to-every-law-abiding-gun-owner\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"canadas-gun-buyback-is-failing\" title=\"Canada\u2019s Gun Buyback Is Failing\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2591\">Law-abiding gun owners<\/a> saw the program for what it was and refused to play along. Twenty-five guns turned in wasn\u2019t apathy. It was rejection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada\u2019s buyback isn\u2019t failing because it hasn\u2019t been explained well enough.
