GOA is mad because DOJ keeps stepping on rakes, picking the rake back up, and then insisting it\u2019s actually the most pro-rake department in history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/former-supreme-court-justice-14th-amendment-covers-gay-marriage-not-second-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"goas-beef-doj-explained\" title=\"GOA's Beef with Trump's DOJ Explained\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2411\">Justice keeps insisting it\u2019s a friend of the Second Amendment<\/a> while actively acting like the guy who \u201csupports your diet\u201d by bringing donuts to every meeting. Lots of talk. Across the gun-rights world, patience is wearing thinner than an ATF interpretation letter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Groups, like Firearms Policy Coalition, <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/interview-with-alan-gottlieb-second-amendment-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"goas-beef-doj-explained\" title=\"GOA's Beef with Trump's DOJ Explained\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2409\">Second Amendment Foundation<\/a>, and National Association for Gun Rights, are all looking at DOJ and asking the same question: <em>Why are you fighting us harder than the people who actually hate gun owners?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-thirty-regulators-one-ceo-inside-the-rise-of-silencer-central\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/brandon-maddox-silencer-central-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"goas-beef-doj-explained\" title=\"GOA's Beef with Trump's DOJ Explained\">Thirty Regulators, One CEO: Inside the Rise of Silencer Central<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The frustration really boils over with DOJ actively opposing GOA in its <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/gun-owners-of-america-national-firearms-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"goas-beef-doj-explained\" title=\"GOA's Beef with Trump's DOJ Explained\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2408\">challenge to the National Firearms Act<\/a>. DOJ\u2019s argument boils down to a vague, squishy standard about \u201cparticularly dangerous weapons,\u201d which sounds less like constitutional law and more like something scribbled on a whiteboard at a gun-control <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/think-tank-poll-finds-that-levi-strauss-anti-gun-corporate-activism-likely-hurts-bottom-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"goas-beef-doj-explained\" title=\"GOA's Beef with Trump's DOJ Explained\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2407\">think tank<\/a> in Berkeley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When your legal theory could\u2019ve been copy-pasted from California, something has gone very wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then there\u2019s DOJ\u2019s habit of trying to \u201cmoot\u201d gun-rights cases instead of letting <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/6th-circuit-court-rules-permanent-gun-ban-mentally-ill-may-unconstitutional\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"goas-beef-doj-explained\" title=\"GOA's Beef with Trump's DOJ Explained\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2410\">courts issue permanent rulings<\/a>. That\u2019s legal speak for \u201clet\u2019s quietly make this go away and hope nobody notices.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DOJ says the ATF has turned over a new leaf, learned its lesson, and would <em>never<\/em> reoffend. That\u2019s adorable. It\u2019s also the legal equivalent of trusting the fox because he promised not to check on the henhouse anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This strategy matters because temporary fixes don\u2019t survive elections. Without binding court judgments, the next hostile administration can snap these policies right back into place like nothing ever happened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DOJ knows this. Gun owners know this. Which makes DOJ\u2019s behavior feel less like incompetence and more like deliberate foot-dragging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The double standard is impossible to ignore. When the ACLU sued over Trump-era border policies, DOJ under Biden flipped sides instantly, agreed to an injunction, and cut a $6 million check for attorneys\u2019 fees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When GOA wins, DOJ suddenly forgets how settlement works and starts clutching the government checkbook like it\u2019s their own wallet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And let\u2019s not forget DOJ\u2019s role in the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swlaw.com\/publication\/reese-v-atf-fifth-circuit-strikes-down-federal-handgun-purchase-ban-for-18-to-20-year-olds\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"goas-beef-doj-explained\" title=\"GOA's Beef with Trump's DOJ Explained\">Reese v. ATF<\/a><\/em> mess, where it tried to condition relief on gun-rights groups turning over membership lists.  Because nothing screams \u201ccivil liberties\u201d like asking advocacy groups to hand the government a roster of their supporters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DOJ even argued that unconstitutional laws should keep being enforced against as many people as possible. That\u2019s not a typo. That was the position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At one point, DOJ seriously argued that only people who were members of gun-rights groups <em>five years ago<\/em> should benefit from a ruling protecting 18-to-20-year-olds. Which is impressive, because it manages to be legally absurd <em>and<\/em> temporally impossible at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-a-gun-guide-for-beginners\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/beginner-gun-guide-new-shooter-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"goas-beef-doj-explained\" title=\"GOA's Beef with Trump's DOJ Explained\">A Gun Guide for Beginners<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All of this raises an uncomfortable question: why does DOJ seem more interested in preserving bureaucratic power than locking in real 2A wins? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because from the outside, it looks like DOJ wants gun owners stuck in a permanent election-cycle hostage situation (<em>vote red or this all comes back<\/em>) instead of actually fixing the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not what gun owners voted for. And it\u2019s definitely not what \u201cmost pro-Second Amendment DOJ ever\u201d is supposed to look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Pam Bondi wants that title, the solution isn\u2019t another press release or a symbolic office buried inside DOJ. It\u2019s simple: stop fighting GOA and every other major gun-rights group in court. Work <em>with<\/em> them. Secure permanent rulings. Tie the ATF\u2019s hands for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because right now, DOJ isn\u2019t acting like an ally.
