It\u2019s a constitutional <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/maine-voters-yes-red-flag-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ilhan-omar-gun-registry\" title=\"Ilhan Omar Believes We Need A Gun Registry -- What Say You?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1858\">red flag<\/a> wrapped in feel-good rhetoric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start with the registry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saying \u201cwe just need to know where the guns are\u201d sounds harmless until you remember what a registry actually is: a government list of who owns what firearms, where they live, and what they\u2019ve got. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>History, both here and abroad, shows that registries aren\u2019t some neutral safety tool. They\u2019re the prerequisite for future restrictions and, in the worst cases, confiscation. If the state knows exactly where <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/conference-mayors-endorses-gun-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ilhan-omar-gun-registry\" title=\"Ilhan Omar Believes We Need A Gun Registry -- What Say You?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1859\">every gun<\/a> is, it also knows exactly where to go when the political winds shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then there\u2019s the idea that a registry lets government know when guns \u201cgo into the wrong hands.\u201d That\u2019s fantasy-level bureaucracy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Criminals don\u2019t file change-of-ownership forms. Straw buyers and thieves aren\u2019t logging into some federal portal. The government didn\u2019t sell these guns to begin with, so it\u2019s not \u201cbuying them back.\u201d It\u2019s paying people with their own tax dollars to surrender lawfully owned property, while violent offenders keep doing violent-offender things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Framing all of this as a reasonable response to \u201ctoo many guns\u201d skips the core issue: the right to keep and bear arms is an individual constitutional right, not a privilege that exists only if Washington can barcode every <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/silencerco-omega-36m-centerfire-suppressor\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"ilhan-omar-gun-registry\" title=\"Ilhan Omar Believes We Need A Gun Registry -- What Say You?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1856\">rifle and pistol<\/a> in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a free society, government doesn\u2019t get to keep a master list of who\u2019s armed.
