Then, she found herself out of a job for surviving it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dilyard was working the overnight shift alone.  It&#8217;s something she\u2019d done for more than two years, when a <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/man-dies-shotgun-blast-head-trying-show-friends-wasnt-loaded\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"7-eleven-clerk-fired-shooting-violent-attacker\" title=\"7-Eleven Clerk Fired for Shooting Violent Attacker\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1488\">man tried<\/a> to use a counterfeit $100 bill to buy burritos, beef sticks, and ice cream. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When she refused the fake bill, things turned violent fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe threatened me and said that he was going to slice my head off,\u201d Dilyard told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/redirect?event=video_description&amp;redir_token=QUFFLUhqbExfTUlZYnN6TzFLendzeG03VVNnc0c0ci1Wd3xBQ3Jtc0trZEd1dHc2VGkyaFdwX3lLakpSbGp6MUV0dnVRaU5SUW01dWJOb1RIenZ0ZHNjOVQ2bHhEbEsyOXhhN0ZuRnZUazBjMTNrSFlRaVNiMVM2emFtLWNMUFNMbkd5a3J4UGVacUZVMlFOSWh6V0hlaHhOSQ&amp;q=https%3A%2F%2Fokcfox.com%2Fnews%2Flocal%2F7-eleven-clerk-fired-after-shooting-attacker-in-self-defense&amp;v=9Ypz10gDeTg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"7-eleven-clerk-fired-shooting-violent-attacker\" title=\"7-Eleven Clerk Fired for Shooting Violent Attacker\">FOX 25<\/a><\/em>. She tried to <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/gun-control-group-encourages-citizens-to-call-police-on-open-concealed-carriers-going-too-far\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"7-eleven-clerk-fired-shooting-violent-attacker\" title=\"7-Eleven Clerk Fired for Shooting Violent Attacker\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1487\">call police<\/a>, but the situation exploded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe started throwing things at me\u2026 he came behind the counter. I tried to run off, but he grabbed his hands around my neck and pushed me out of the counter space,&#8221; she explained. That\u2019s when I pulled out my <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/kimbers-subalpine-mountain-rifle\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"7-eleven-clerk-fired-shooting-violent-attacker\" title=\"7-Eleven Clerk Fired for Shooting Violent Attacker\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1485\">gun and I shot<\/a> him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspect, 59-year-old Kenneth Thompson, fled the store, called 911 from a nearby street, and was later arrested at the hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He now <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/american-hunter-who-killed-famous-lion-will-not-face-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"7-eleven-clerk-fired-shooting-violent-attacker\" title=\"7-Eleven Clerk Fired for Shooting Violent Attacker\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1486\">faces charges<\/a> including assault and battery, threatening acts of violence, attempting to pass a fake bill, and a felony warrant for violating parole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-beretta-20x-vs-21a-bobcat-the-tip-up-showdown\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/beretta-20x-vs-21a-bobcat-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"7-eleven-clerk-fired-shooting-violent-attacker\" title=\"7-Eleven Clerk Fired for Shooting Violent Attacker\">Beretta 20X vs 21A Bobcat: The Tip Up Showdown<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Police confirmed Dilyard\u2019s use of force is protected under Oklahoma self-defense law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But instead of support from her employer, Dilyard got a termination notice. She says 7-Eleven corporate called Monday morning and informed her she was being fired for \u201ca violation of policy.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Namely, using her own gun to stay alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even days later, she still had a scratch on her neck and burns on her finger from firing the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/squeaky-fromme-and-her-1911-pistol-a-whole-lot-of-crazy-in-one-tiny-package\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"7-eleven-clerk-fired-shooting-violent-attacker\" title=\"7-Eleven Clerk Fired for Shooting Violent Attacker\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1484\">pistol<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she had no choice: \u201cThis was a situation where I felt like I was put in a corner between choosing between my job and my life, and I&#8217;m always going to choose my life\u2026 I need to be here for my kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dilyard hopes her experience serves as a warning, especially for women working alone at night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf I know that somebody could be for real in taking my life away, I will do whatever it takes\u2026 You have the right to defend yourself,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>FOX 25 <\/em>reports they have reached out to 7-Eleven for comment but have not yet received a response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong><em>*** <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"7-eleven-clerk-fired-shooting-violent-attacker\" title=\"7-Eleven Clerk Fired for Shooting Violent Attacker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Buy and Sell on GunsAmerica!<\/a> ***<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cHe threatened me and said that he was going to slice my head off,\u201d Dilyard told FOX 25.
