Crime doesn’t pay, especially when one tries to rob someone in front of a MMA fighter. <\/p>\n

Back on July 10, Mayura Dissanyake was working his shift at the Fuel Depot in Houston, Texas, when his co-worker was returning to the gas station after a trip to the bank.<\/p>\n

Upon walking up to front door of the store, the co-worker was jumped by a group of would-be robbers. That’s when Dissanyake, a mixed martial arts champion from Sri Lanka came to the rescue.<\/p>\n

“The first guy I saw, I just kicked him in the face,” Dissanyake told local news affiliate KPRC<\/a>. “Then I punched the other guy.”<\/p>\n

The thieves began retreating to the nearby getaway car, but that didn’t stop the fist-wielding, leg-kicking store clerk from attacking one of the suspects, identified as 33-year-old Odell Mathis, who was left behind. <\/p>\n

“I just kicked him until he lays down on the floor,” explained Dissanyake. “Until he stopped moving cause I wasn’t sure if he had a knife or a gun so I wanted him to stop moving.”<\/p>\n

After the threat had been neutralized, police arrested Mathis and charged him robbery and bodily injury. The other crooks are still on the loose. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
