ATF<\/a><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case challenges the federal law that bans licensed firearm dealers from selling handguns and handgun ammunition to adults under 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Court Demands Gun Rights Org Turn Over Membership List\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BcpS_NXh1aI?start=61&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Robert R. Summerhays\u2014at the request of the Department of Justice\u2014ordered SAF and FPC to provide the government with \u201ca verified list of their members\u201d to enforce the judgment. The order immediately raised alarms across the gun community, with critics calling it a backdoor gun registry attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But as of October 14, 2025, that order is off the table. The court vacated the requirement after SAF, FPC, and DOJ jointly filed a motion to amend the judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-meet-the-maztech-x4-fcs-fire-control-system\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/maztech-x4-fcs-fire-control-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"judge-orders-member-lists-then-backs-down\" title=\"Judge Backs Down After Ordering SAF, FPC to Hand Over Member Lists\">Meet the Maztech X4-FCS Fire Control System<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe had no intention of releasing any private membership data and were prepared to take all necessary steps to ensure our member list was not disclosed to the government,\u201d said SAF Director of Legal Operations Bill Sack. \u201cLuckily, the court responded to our joint motion promptly and vacated its original order.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The court will now hold a phone conference to clarify the proper scope of relief, but for now, no group is required to hand over any names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb was blunt about the principle at stake:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s preposterous to think we would release any type of member data to anyone. We\u2019re thankful the court saw its error\u2026 We will never release the private data of SAF supporters to the government, full stop. That\u2019s akin to letting the proverbial fox in the henhouse.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawsuit itself remains a key front in the national debate over whether 18- to 20-year-olds can legally purchase handguns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals sided with SAF and FPC, ruling that the handgun ban violates the Second Amendment.
