The decision applies statewide\u2014but not all retailers are on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walmart, Target, Costco, and Winn-Dixie have already said they will not allow open carry inside their stores despite the legal change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local reaction in Clermont, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wesh.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"publix-embraces-floridas-new-open-carry-law\" title=\"Publix Embraces Florida\u2019s New Open Carry Law\"><em>WESH 2 News<\/em><\/a> spoke with shoppers, was mixed but leaned toward support. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf I\u2019m going to rob you and I got five people standing around you with weapons, chances are I\u2019m going to think twice,\u201d one shopper said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added, \u201cIf you\u2019re open carrying, 99.9% chance I don\u2019t think there\u2019s a threat. If anything, it\u2019s a security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-newsom-signs-glock-ban-two-more-anti-gun-bills\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/newsom-signs-glock-ban-two-more-anti-gun-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"publix-embraces-floridas-new-open-carry-law\" title=\"Publix Embraces Florida\u2019s New Open Carry Law\">Newsom Signs Glock Ban, Two More Anti-Gun Bills<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Others were more cautious. \u201cThere\u2019s an awful lot of people out there that probably shouldn\u2019t have access to a gun, particularly if they\u2019re not trained,\u201d one shopper said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attorney James Phillips of Katz and Phillips, known as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/thefirearmfirm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"publix-embraces-floridas-new-open-carry-law\" title=\"Publix Embraces Florida\u2019s New Open Carry Law\">The Firearm Firm<\/a><\/em>, said the court decision that overturned the ban has left some gray areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOpen carry just came about last month here in Florida,\u201d Phillips said. \u201cIt\u2019s been banned since 1987, but we had a recent court case that found the statute to be unconstitutional. So now it\u2019s applicable throughout the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phillips noted that lawmakers haven\u2019t yet issued detailed guidance on where or how open carry can be exercised. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are absolutely going to get some guidance from the Legislature in this next session,\u201d he said, adding that several clarifying bills are expected to be filed soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, the law stands\u2014Floridians can legally carry openly, and Publix says they\u2019ll respect that right. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Phillips put it, \u201cPeople who aren\u2019t as gun friendly might hesitate when they first see it, but the law is the law.
