While most of America was watching baseball, Gov. Starting January 1, 2026, California will ban the sale of all Glock handguns\u2014and any Glock-style pistol that uses a cruciform trigger bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill, AB 1127, targets guns that could theoretically be \u201creadily converted\u201d into machine guns using an illegal \u201cGlock switch.\u201d In practice, that means almost every Glock model and its clones from companies like Shadow Systems and Polymer80 are off the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/maztech-x4-fcs-fire-control-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-signs-glock-ban-two-more-anti-gun-bills\" title=\"Newsom Signs Glock Ban, Two More Anti-Gun Bills\">Meet the Maztech X4-FCS Fire Control System<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Kirk put it, the law criminalizes legal guns because of illegal accessories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThey want to ban a perfectly legal firearm because somebody else makes an illegal item, illegally imports it, and illegally uses it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Unless Glock completely redesigns its pistols\u2014or this law gets struck down in court\u2014California dealers will be done selling Glocks by 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sb-704-background-checks-for-barrels\">SB 704 \u2013 Background Checks for Barrels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Next up is SB 704, another bureaucratic gem that takes effect July 1, 2027. This law says you can\u2019t just buy a barrel and have it shipped to your door anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, you\u2019ll have to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Send it to an FFL<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pass a background check, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pay a new state-imposed fee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So now even a basic parts order turns into a background check and an added tax. Kirk joked that it\u2019s hard to imagine how many lives this \u201csaves,\u201d but easy to see how much it costs gun owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ab-1078-quotas-carry-bans-and-one-small-silver-lining\">AB 1078 \u2013 Quotas, Carry Bans, and One Small Silver Lining<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Gavin Newsom: \u201cWe\u2019re dealing with the tyranny of this administration every goddamn day. This son of a bitch is going to not only re-write history. We won\u2019t have a country if this guy\u2019s successful. There might not be another free and fair election unless we win back the House\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hvjsZZnnCL\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-signs-glock-ban-two-more-anti-gun-bills\" title=\"Newsom Signs Glock Ban, Two More Anti-Gun Bills\">pic.twitter.com\/hvjsZZnnCL<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Marco Foster (@MarcoFoster_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarcoFoster_\/status\/1976703776825524728?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"newsom-signs-glock-ban-two-more-anti-gun-bills\" title=\"Newsom Signs Glock Ban, Two More Anti-Gun Bills\">October 10, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, AB 1078 adds more restrictions wrapped in feel-good language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what\u2019s inside:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Limits purchases to three firearms per month<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expands \u201csensitive places\u201d where carry is banned\u2014including all public transportation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tweaks restraining order laws so a temporary order alone no longer automatically disqualifies carry applicants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But surprisingly, there\u2019s a small win: starting July 1, 2026, out-of-state residents will have a clearer process to apply for a California CCW permit. Ironically, it might soon be easier for outsiders to get one than for Californians themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-these-laws-hit\">When These Laws Hit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AB 1127 (Glock Ban): January 1, 2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AB 1078 (New restrictions): July 1, 2027 \u2014 with the out-of-state CCW rule starting January 1, 2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SB 704 (Barrel Background Checks): July 1, 2027<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirk\u2019s takeaway?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re in the market for a Glock or Glock-style handgun, now might be the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-legal-fight-ahead\">The Legal Fight Ahead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawsuits are inevitable\u2014and likely already being drafted.
