{"id":22245,"date":"2014-07-23T17:03:49","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T21:03:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/blog\/?p=22245"},"modified":"2014-07-23T17:03:49","modified_gmt":"2023-08-17T19:30:16","slug":"pa-mom-faces-3-years-prison-carrying-concealed-nj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/pa-mom-faces-3-years-prison-carrying-concealed-nj\/","title":{"rendered":"PA Mom faces 3 years in prison for carrying concealed in NJ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A single mother of two is facing three years in prison for accidentally carrying a firearm into New Jersey, Fox News reports. <\/p>\n<p>Shaneen Allen, 27, is a licensed concealed carry permit holder in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but when she was pulled over in New Jersey, for a routine traffic stop, she admitted to having a firearm on her person and was slapped with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hollow point ammunition, charges that carry a mandatory minimum sentence of three years.  <\/p>\n<p>Upon being pulled over by New Jersey police, Allen admitted that she was carry a firearm for self-defense &#8212; a .380 Bersa Thunder handgun &#8212; which precipitated the charges.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe officer knew there was a gun there, she was completely honest and open,\u201d her attorney, Evan Nappen, said. \u201cThere are no aggravating factors in this case; she\u2019s a single mom of two, working in the medical field who was robbed twice and that\u2019s what inspired her to get a gun license in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now Allen is worried about her future and who will look out for her boys if she is incarcerated.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want people to know that if you look at it through my eyes, mistakes happen,\u201d Allen told FoxNews.com. \u201cI just hope that everything turns out OK for me and my kids because I\u2019m all they have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also said that, as a new gun owners, she wish she would have taken the time to read up on various state and federal gun laws.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish I was more aware of the law,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd to anyone out there looking to purchase a firearm, know the law. I didn\u2019t even get the chance to understand the laws.
