If you work in a gun store or run one, that\u2019s more than a hassle \u2014 that\u2019s a livelihood killer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fix? Talk to your attorney before signing anything. That default clause could make you a prohibited person overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-misdemeanor-domestic-violence-even-the-petty-stuff-counts\"><strong>2. Misdemeanor Domestic Violence: Even the Petty Stuff Counts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under 18 U.S.C. \u00a7922(g)(9), even a <em>ticket-level offense<\/em> involving \u201cuse or attempted use of force\u201d against an intimate partner can kill your gun rights for life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople think it means beating up your spouse,\u201d Richard says. \u201cBut it can be something as simple as spitting, grabbing an arm, or poking someone\u2019s shoulder during an argument. Taylor adds, \u201cIt\u2019s not about what the crime\u2019s called \u2014 it\u2019s about the elements. If it involves any use or threat of force against a domestic partner, you\u2019re prohibited.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-defense doesn\u2019t always save you, either. But someone who gets high and violent might be. Courts are still figuring out where to draw that line, especially after <em>Bruen<\/em> and <em>Rahimi<\/em> reshaped how Second Amendment cases are judged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-takeaway\"><strong>The Takeaway<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t have to be a felon to lose your gun rights. You just need a protective order, a minor domestic scuffle, or a recreational vice that crosses the legal line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Emily puts it: \u201cIt really doesn\u2019t take much, y\u2019all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Armed Attorneys\u2019 advice is simple: know the law before it knows you.
