He\u2019s&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5510046-obama-condemns-trump-comments-kimmel\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">crying foul<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;over Disney\u2019s and Nexstar\u2019s decisions to suspend Jimmy Kimmel for the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/09\/19\/late-night-hack-jimmy-kimmel-has-only-himself-to-blame-for-his-suspension\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">provably false and inflammatory lies<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;he spread about the late Charlie Kirk. Former President Obama, though, ignores the fact that he brought \u201ccancel culture\u201d \u2013 with the full weight of the U.S. government \u2013 against the firearm industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It even had its own name: Operation Choke Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While he might ignore it, those in the firearm industry can\u2019t \u2013 and won\u2019t \u2013 forget. Nearly 15 years later, firearm and ammunition manufacturers, distributors and retailers are still reeling and cleaning up the mess from the illegal scheme to debank and ostracize a Constitutionally protected industry. Former President Obama for short term political gain attempted to cancel an entire industry that provides the means for millions of law-abiding Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Obama: Trump admin has taken cancel culture to &#039;new and dangerous level&#039;\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CmYaMHxG_N8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-illegal-cancel-scheme\">Illegal \u2018Cancel\u2019 Scheme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the Obama administration,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www3.nssf.org\/share\/factsheets\/PDF\/OperationChokePoint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">Operation Choke Point<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;was launched by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Department of Justice (DOJ). The goal was to coerce banks, third-party payment processors and other financial institutions into closing or denying business accounts of clients that the FDIC classified as \u201chigh risk\u201d or a \u201creputational risk\u201d for the financial institution. According to a U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/report\/federal-deposit-insurance-corporations-fdic-involvement-operation-choke-point\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">investigation<\/a><\/strong>, the FDIC \u201cequated legitimate and regulated activities such as coin dealers and firearms and ammunition sales with inherently pernicious or patently illegal activities such as Ponzi schemes, debt consolidation scams, and drug paraphernalia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FDIC included federally licensed firearm retailers and other companies in the firearm and ammunition industry \u2013 some of the most heavily regulated businesses in the country \u2013 on this list of \u201ctoo risky\u201d businesses without any evidence or justification. In fact, in its guidance to banks, the agency \u201cjustified itself by claiming that the categories had been previously \u2018noted by the FDIC.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with the DOJ, the FDIC guidance targeting the law-abiding firearm industry and others was included in DOJ subpoenas. This sent a clear message to banks that they were to stop providing banking and financial services to those clients or risk a federal investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-discrimination-goes-private\">Discrimination Goes Private<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Operation Choke Point only stopped when Congress revealed the illegal overreach of the Obama administration to pick winners and losers by manipulating banks to starve firearm businesses of essential banking services. NSSF\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/nssf-praises-passage-of-u-s-rep-luetkemeyers-legislation-ending-operation-choke-point\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">praised<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0then-U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Mo.) for his dogged determination to end it with the Financial Institution Customer Protection Act,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/115th-congress\/house-bill\/2706?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22Financial+Institution+Customer+Protection+Act%22%5D%7D&amp;r=1\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">H.R. 2706<\/a><\/strong>, which he sponsored. It just went private. It was done with a wink-and-a-nod by unaccountable banking executives in Wall Street ivory tower boardrooms under the guise of \u201creputational risk.\u201d It became so egregious that Bank of America was&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/bank-of-america-sells-out-gun-ammo-purchasers-as-potential-criminals\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">caught red-handed<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;voluntarily giving over the private banking information of its customers who made purchases at sporting goods retailers that sold firearms and ammunition to the Biden administration. Banks \u2013 including global corporate banks like Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo \u2013 iced out firearm and ammunition businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cancel culture was weaponized against a politically disfavored industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It didn\u2019t begin to end until President Donald Trump returned to The White House. His&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/08\/guaranteeing-fair-banking-for-all-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">Executive Order Guaranteeing Free and Fair Banking for All Americans<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;put big banks on notice that the cancel culture war started by former President Obama was over. That Order enforces a firearm industry priority to end banking discrimination against individuals and entities based on political beliefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-change-coming-albeit-slowly\">Change Coming, Albeit Slowly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Slowly, corporate banks are showing signs that they see the Trump administration means business. Citigroup&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/nssf-welcomes-citigroups-reversal-on-discrimination-against-firearm-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">announced a policy reversal<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;in June. That banking giant said it would no longer discriminate against firearm-related businesses after denying services for over a decade. It also came after Citigroup ran afoul of the NSSF-supported Texas Firearm Industry Nondiscrimination (FIND) Act that barred the bank from&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/citigroup-stopped-from-underwriting-3-4-billion-texas-bond-for-discriminating-against-gun-industry_900521.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">competing to underwrite $3.4 billion<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;in state bonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just last week, J.P. Morgan Wealth Investments&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/following-industry-spotlight-major-bank-changes-tune\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">quickly reversed themselves<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;after initially denying services to Silencer Central\u2019s Brandon Maddox. Maddox, a member of NSSF\u2019s Board of Governors, shared that information and NSSF&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/j-p-wealth-management-slow-walking-presidents-banking-nondiscrimination-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">exposed the continuing discrimination<\/a><\/strong>, even as the Treasury Department\u2019s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC)&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/occ.gov\/news-issuances\/news-releases\/2025\/nr-occ-2025-84.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"nsff-obama-howls-about-cancel-culture-he-started\" title=\"NSFF: Obama Howls About \u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 He Started\">announced actions<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;to depoliticize the federal banking system. The OCC is the watchdog of the banks to ensure they\u2019re playing by the rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of this, however, would be necessary had former President Obama not launched his cancel culture against the firearm industry with the illegal Operation Choke Point. Banking discrimination was \u2013 and is \u2013 a purely political weapon that was and still is wielded against members of the firearm industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kimmel\u2019s suspension was a business decision by ABC. After all, they broadcast on publicly owned frequencies that are regulated. That decision is called accountability. No one is telling Kimmel he can\u2019t spread his hateful lies with his shrinking audience. The network carrying his show is saying they don\u2019t want to be a part of it. Former President Obama can feign frustration over cancel culture all he wants, but Kimmel\u2019s suspension is a poor cancel culture example \u2013 &nbsp;and he should know \u2013 he weaponized cancel culture in the first place.&nbsp; In fact, the former president\u2019s hypocrisy was on full display and was obvious to anyone paying attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"
