From his Texas porch, he tore into the narrative with trademark fire: \u201cWhere innocent people are forced into unarmed helplessness, they are slaughtered. Where people have the right to bear arms, they survive and evil loses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When pressed on why he \u201cneeded\u201d so-called assault rifles, Nugent flipped the script. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Does America have a gun problem? | 60 Minutes Australia\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9VitpePxcyk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This segment originally aired in 2013.  The network recently posted it again on its YouTube page.  In doing so, it wrote, &#8220;In the United States of America, thousands of people are killed every year in acts of gun violence. How dare you? Quit with the need crap. I refuse to answer your question that you think you might know what I might need,&#8221; he exclaimed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That exchange summed up the divide \u2014 Australians looked for justification, Americans like Nugent reminded them rights don\u2019t require excuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The show also spotlighted everyday Americans, from suburban moms training with pistols to children learning firearm safety under Marine veteran instructors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Viewers in Sydney may have been \u201cmortified\u201d at kids handling .22s, but here it looked like responsible parenting. Teaching gun handling early is about respect and safety \u2014 not fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it isn\u2019t just families. Women are now the fastest-growing segment of gun owners in America, with more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrawomen.com\/content\/nssf-survey-says-women-comprised-one-third-of-2021-s-new-gun-owners\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"when-60-minutes-australia-asked-uncle-ted\" title=\"When '60 Minutes Australia' Asked Uncle Ted If America Had a Gun Problem\">30 million armed <\/a>and often choosing firearms that fit their style. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As one instructor put it, \u201cA gun is a tool if you practice it \u2014 and it\u2019s your choice to carry it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The segment even visited Kennesaw, Georgia \u2014 the town where local law requires households to own a firearm. Predictably, crime there sits at rock-bottom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Locals chalk it up to deterrence: when everyone\u2019s armed, criminals think twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout, Nugent delivered classic Nuge: no compromise, no apologies. He called out politicians protected by taxpayer-funded security who demand ordinary citizens go unarmed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow dare our employees tell the employers they get armed security at our expense, but we will be unarmed and helpless,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Kiss my ass.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s Ted Nugent \u2014 blunt, brash, and unapologetically pro-2A. And while <em>60 Minutes Australia<\/em> wanted to paint America\u2019s gun culture as dangerous, what came across loud and clear was why millions cling proudly to their firearms.
