Starting July 1, 2026, California will prohibit the sale of \u201cmachine gun convertible pistols.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"California Glock Ban Update and Analysis\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y0H2Ut_-bBA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Pretty solid breakdown if you got a few mints to watch.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Translation: if your pistol can take a Glock switch or similar backplate device to run full-auto, it\u2019s off the table. Lawmakers basically wrote the definition to describe how Glock switches function, and yes, that includes Glock Gen 3 handguns still on the state roster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The irony? Hammond says most lawful shooters will never even see one of these switches in the wild. He calls it a \u201csolution without a problem.\u201d But Sacramento has a habit of turning rare edge cases into sweeping bans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-the-ultimate-22lr-competition-build-zermatt-rimx-review\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-ultimate-22lr-competition-build-zermatt-rimx-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"californias-new-glock-ban-bill-what-you-need-to-know\" title=\"California\u2019s New Glock Ban Bill: What You Need to Know\">The Ultimate .22LR Competition Build: Zermatt RimX Review<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a few wrinkles and exemptions baked into the law. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If a firearm is delivered to an FFL before January 1, 2026, it can still be sold after the ban kicks in. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Private party transfers through an FFL remain legal, meaning used Glocks may spike in value once the cutoff hits. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Law enforcement, as always, gets an exemption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Hammond points out that the legislature may really be trying to force Glock\u2019s hand. If Glock redesigns its trigger system so switches no longer work, California carved out an exemption that would let those new models back onto the roster. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether Glock bothers playing ball is another story.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, litigation is guaranteed. Courts will need to wrestle with whether banning America\u2019s most popular handgun\u2014clearly \u201cin common use\u201d\u2014passes constitutional muster. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hammond notes the decision may hinge on upcoming Ninth Circuit rulings in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmspolicy.org\/miller\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"californias-new-glock-ban-bill-what-you-need-to-know\" title=\"California\u2019s New Glock Ban Bill: What You Need to Know\"><em>Miller v. Bonta<\/em> <\/a>and related cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what should California shooters do? If you\u2019ve been holding off on buying a Glock, the clock is ticking.
