We were surprised by this in light of the U.S. District Court\u2019s ruling in&nbsp;FRAC v. Bondi.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>Out of an abundance of caution and for the well-being of consumers, dealers, and distributors, we are voluntarily requesting all of our customers to return their 5.56 caliber Antithesis firearms for a full refund.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>We encourage customers who have taken possession of an Antithesis firearm to contact Franklin Armory Customer service for an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) and shipping label.&nbsp;This return does not affect Reformation, the .410\/45LC Antithesis, or any other firearm made by Franklin Armory.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>As&nbsp;Facilitators of Freedom, we are actively raising our concerns with various entities within Congress and the Trump Administration. The Antithesis is the result of years of litigation, millions in legal bills, and a rare federal court ruling that forced ATF to back down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jjvEZksJKKc\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Will a future administration crack down on this like Trump did with bump stocks or Biden did with pistol braces?  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a settlement (read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\/firearms\/docs\/open-letter\/all-ffls-august-2025-open-letter-franklin-armory-reformation-and\/download\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"franklin-armory-pushes-the-envelope-again-with-the-antithesis\" title=\"Franklin Armory Pushes the Envelope Again with the Antithesis\">here<\/a>) finalized this summer, the Antithesis isn\u2019t a rifle, isn\u2019t a shotgun, and isn\u2019t subject to NFA restrictions. Translation: no tax stamp, no Form 4, no fingerprints, and no need to alert ATF every time you cross state lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Franklin Armory is offering six <a href=\"https:\/\/franklinarmory.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"franklin-armory-pushes-the-envelope-again-with-the-antithesis\" title=\"Franklin Armory Pushes the Envelope Again with the Antithesis\">versions<\/a> of the Antithesis, all chambered in 5.56 NATO, with barrel lengths ranging from 7.5 to 12.5 inches.  Prices start at over $1,000.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Five Big Points<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Nationwide Application<\/strong> \u2013 The settlement applies across the entire U.S., not just one judicial circuit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Codified as Non-NFA<\/strong> \u2013 Antithesis and Reformation are officially <em>not<\/em> regulated under the NFA. They can\u2019t be classified as rifles, shotguns, SBRs, or SBSs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Exemption from Certain GCA Restrictions<\/strong> \u2013 They\u2019re immune from sections of the Gun Control Act that typically restrict transport and transfer of short-barreled firearms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Immediate Return of Liberties<\/strong> \u2013 You can buy and transfer Antithesis today on a simple 4473, with legal protections tied directly to the settlement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Broader Industry Impact<\/strong> \u2013 The ruling affects imports, exports, and licensing opportunities, opening the door for other manufacturers\u2014especially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fracaction.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"franklin-armory-pushes-the-envelope-again-with-the-antithesis\" title=\"Franklin Armory Pushes the Envelope Again with the Antithesis\">FRAC members<\/a>\u2014to use the design.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Every one of them transfers on a standard Form 4473. The company has been quick to market this as \u201cfreedom, no strings attached.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here\u2019s the thing\u2014Franklin Armory has a reputation for skating on the edge. Clever? Sure. Gimmicky? Also yes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By designing the gun to fire not just a single projectile but also multi-projectile loads\u2014like duplex rounds or shot shells\u2014they sidestep the NFA\u2019s definition of a rifle, which requires it to fire <em>only<\/em> a <em>single<\/em> projectile through a rifled bore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, because Antithesis can launch more than one piece of lead at once, Franklin successfully argued it doesn\u2019t fit Congress\u2019s wording of a regulated short-barreled rifle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That leaves the bigger question: who\u2019s this really for? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Franklin Armory clearly wants to sell the concept of an NFA-free shorty, but the average gun buyer might hesitate. Will shooters embrace something this unusual\u2014or view it as a pricey novelty destined for the safe? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Time will tell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, Antithesis is legal nationwide under the settlement, with ATF officially advising FFLs to classify it as \u201cother firearm\u201d on the 4473. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned, whether this innovation becomes a lasting shift or just another quirky loophole in gun law remains to be seen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bigger political impact, however, is Franklin Armory\u2019s role in pushing the conversation toward a full repeal of the NFA.
