The NSSF and ATF are celebrating 25 years of their \u201cDon\u2019t Lie for the Other Guy\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in 2000, the program fights straw purchases\u2014when someone illegally buys a gun for a person banned from owning one. Both made it clear: this partnership works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A straw purchase isn\u2019t just a bad favor. It\u2019s a felony. Get caught, and you\u2019re looking at 15 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not small change. It\u2019s life-changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why the fuss? Because straw purchases put guns in the hands of felons, abusers, and others who can\u2019t pass background checks. Those guns fuel violent crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think robberies. Think homicides. Think gang activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cDon\u2019t Lie\u201d campaign hammers that message home. Retailers are trained to spot shady buys. Ads warn buyers about the steep consequences. Cut off the supply, and you cut off the crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year alone, NSSF delivered over 107 million ad impressions. ATF racked up another 85 million views.
