United States<\/em>, a case challenging federal restrictions on <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/search?keyword=short-barreled%20rifles\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\">short-barreled rifles<\/a> (SBRs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining SAF in the <a href=\"https:\/\/saf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Robinson-SBR-amicus-brief-8.12.25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\">filing<\/a> are the Second Amendment Law Center, the California Rifle &amp; Pistol Association, and the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-yoast-seo-table-of-contents yoast-table-of-contents\"><h2>Table of contents<\/h2><ul><li><a href=\"#h-why-this-matters\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\" data-level=\"2\">Why This Matters<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-the-brief-s-key-points\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\" data-level=\"2\">The Brief\u2019s Key Points<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-part-of-a-larger-fight\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\" data-level=\"2\">Part of a Larger Fight<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-this-matters\"><strong>Why This Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Eleventh <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/5th-circuit-appeals-court-rules-against-bump-stock-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"185\">Circuit Court of Appeals<\/a> relied on <em>U.S. v. Miller<\/em> (1939) to uphold SBR restrictions, arguing they had no militia use\u2014similar to its earlier stance on short-barreled shotguns. SAF says that logic doesn\u2019t hold up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven if <em>Miller<\/em> were the correct standard, SBRs are in regular military use today,\u201d said SAF Director of Legal Research and Education Kostas Moros. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/handguns-for-women-and-men-with-small-hands\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\">Handguns for Women and Men With Small Hands<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe M4 rifle, our military\u2019s standard issue, has a 14.5-inch barrel\u2014below the 16-inch limit set by the law,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Many variants, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/search?keyword=mk18\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\">MK18<\/a>, are even shorter. <em>Miller<\/em> actually supports our position, not the government\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-brief-s-key-points\"><strong>The Brief\u2019s Key Points<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SBRs qualify as \u201carms\u201d under the Second Amendment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The government bears the burden to prove a historical tradition of regulating firearms based on barrel length\u2014and no such tradition exists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Today\u2019s standard military rifles fall under the \u201cshort-barrel\u201d category targeted by the law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>SAF says the case is bigger than just one law\u2014it\u2019s about correcting courts that misapply the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-part-of-a-larger-fight\"><strong>Part of a Larger Fight<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-files-amicus-brief-in-pa-gun-rights-denial-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-challenge-sbr-restrictions\" title=\"SAF Pushes Supreme Court to Hear Challenge on SBR Restrictions\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"184\">amicus brief<\/a> is just one part of our fight against the National Firearms Act\u2019s restrictions on SBRs and silencers,\u201d said SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe also have a landmark case, <em>Brown v. ATF<\/em>, challenging the NFA\u2019s constitutionality.
