Let\u2019s get something straight: If the government can hand out tax credits for electric scooters<\/a>, rooftop solar panels<\/a>, and chicken coops<\/a>, then surely it can help law-abiding Americans exercise a right that\u2019s actually in the Constitution.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m talking about guns, of course\u2014specifically, a tax incentive or rebate of up to $800 for every first-time firearm purchase<\/a> made by a non-prohibited person in the United States. That\u2019s right. Uncle Sugar should be footing part of the bill when a responsible citizen decides to buy their first boomstick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before you clutch your pearls, remember that the Second Amendment doesn\u2019t say, \u201c…shall not be infringed, unless it\u2019s a little pricey.\u201d In fact, it explicitly ties gun ownership to the security of a free state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The founding fathers weren\u2019t writing poetry\u2014they were building a nation. And that nation depended (and still depends) on an armed, competent, and engaged population. You can\u2019t have a well-regulated militia if half the citizenry can\u2019t afford a decent sidearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So let\u2019s give every law-abiding adult a one-time tax rebate to cover their first firearm purchase. Cap it at $800, sure\u2014we don\u2019t need to be funding Barrett .50 cals for every soccer dad (yet). But $800 covers a solid handgun<\/a>, a home defense shotgun, or even a starter AR. The point isn\u2019t to hand out weapons. It\u2019s to empower citizens with the tools\u2014and the knowledge\u2014that keep a republic strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yes, we include training with that rebate. A basic firearm safety course, some range time, a run-through of local laws. Nothing crazy, just enough to build confidence and competence. Think of it like driver\u2019s ed\u2014but with more recoil and fewer minivans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Critics will whine, \u201cBut won\u2019t this increase gun violence?\u201d No, it won\u2019t. Criminals don\u2019t go to Cabela\u2019s with a W-2 form and ask for a background check. This program isn\u2019t about them. It\u2019s about the quiet majority of Americans who follow the law, pay their taxes, and want to defend their homes and families\u2014or maybe just enjoy some target shooting on the weekends. You know, normal stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And let\u2019s be honest: An armed society is<\/em> a polite society. When citizens understand firearms\u2014how to handle them, how to respect them, and how to use them responsibly\u2014you get a culture rooted in accountability. That\u2019s something America could use a little more of right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also a nod to equality. Not everyone grows up in a hunting family or can afford a $600 pistol and another $200 in fees, ammo, and accessories. A tax rebate lowers the barrier to entry and says: \u201cHey, your right matters just as much as anyone else\u2019s.\u201d That\u2019s the kind of empowerment we should be promoting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plus, imagine the economic stimulus. Local gun shops<\/a>, ranges, instructors, and manufacturers would all benefit. American-made products, American jobs, and American freedom. It\u2019s the Second Amendment stimulus package we didn\u2019t know we needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We already incentivize home ownership, electric cars, college tuition, and even having kids (have you seen<\/em> the child tax credit<\/a> lately?). Why not support the exercise of a core civil right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So let\u2019s make it happen. If you\u2019re a non-prohibited person, you get one shot\u2014pun intended\u2014to claim a federal rebate on your first gun. Learn the rules, take the class, buy the firearm, and claim your credit. Simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country doesn\u2019t need fewer guns in responsible hands\u2014it needs more<\/em>. A nation of trained, armed, and informed citizens is a nation that doesn\u2019t get pushed around. Not by criminals, not by tyrants, and not by anyone who forgot what \u201cWe the People\u201d means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
