Platkin<\/a><\/em>, challenging New Jersey\u2019s outright ban on suppressors. The lawsuit includes the backing of the NRA, SAF, <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-freedom-arms-555-safari-club-international\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"215\">Safari Club International<\/a>, and local firearms groups. With this filing, New Jersey joins Illinois (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/suppressor.org\/litigation\/illinois\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\">Anderson v. Raoul<\/a><\/em>) and California (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/michellawyers.com\/sanchez-v-bonta\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\">Sanchez v. Bonta<\/a><\/em>) in the legal crosshairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then on August 1, the coalition dropped another bombshell: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmspolicy.org\/brown\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\">Brown v. ATF<\/a><\/em>, filed in federal court in Missouri, directly challenges the constitutionality of the NFA itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NFA\u2019s registration scheme only exists to enforce a tax,\u201d said SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. \u201cNow that the tax is gone, so is the government\u2019s justification for keeping the registry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-trump-s-one-big-beautiful-bill-the-game-changer\">Trump\u2019s One Big Beautiful Bill: The Game-Changer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawsuits stem from a seismic shift in federal law. On July 4, President Trump signed the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/1\/text\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\">One Big Beautiful Bill<\/a><\/em>, eliminating the $200 NFA transfer tax on suppressors, <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/search?keyword=short-barreled%20rifles\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\">short-barreled rifles,<\/a> short-barreled shotguns, and so-called \u201cAny Other Weapons.\u201d That marks the first real crack in the NFA\u2019s foundation since it was passed in 1934.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting January 1, 2026, gun owners will no longer be forced to pay a $200 tax just to legally own a muffler for their firearm. The new law delivers an estimated $200 million annual tax break to law-abiding Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-sandw-mandp-k-frame\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\">The S&amp;W M&amp;P K-Frame \u2013 A Classic Six Gun<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But more importantly, it opens the door to challenge the entire NFA registry as unconstitutional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the tax eliminated, the NFA is now just a useless hurdle standing between Americans and their rights,\u201d said ASA President Knox Williams. \u201cIt\u2019s time to send this law to the dustbin of history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-murphy-s-desperate-hail-mary\">Murphy\u2019s Desperate Hail Mary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Predictably, the anti-gun crowd is scrambling. Just three weeks after the OBBB passed, Sen. Chris Murphy introduced an amendment to jack the suppressor tax back up\u2014not to $200, but to a modern-day equivalent of $4,700.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why that oddly specific number? That\u2019s how much $200 in 1934 money is worth today, adjusted for inflation. But don\u2019t expect this absurd proposal to go anywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no chance Congress or President Trump will undo the very bill they just passed,\u201d said Williams. \u201cMurphy\u2019s amendment is DOA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-guam-goes-loud-but-quietly\">Guam Goes Loud (but Quietly)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In a historic win for hearing protection and personal freedom, Guam became the first U.S. territory to legalize civilian suppressor use. The Guam legislature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guampdn.com\/news\/override-legalizes-gun-suppressors-on-guam-mandatory-trash-service-assan-maina-among-26-bills-passed\/article_dcd50717-86b0-40d2-bb14-7dc4261363a0.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\">overrode<\/a> Governor Guerrero\u2019s veto on July 31, passing the Guam Hearing Protection Act with a veto-proof majority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to the citizens of Guam for reclaiming part of your freedoms,\u201d said Williams. \u201cYour hearing will thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-endgame-50-state-suppressor-freedom\">The Endgame: 50-State Suppressor Freedom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ASA and its allies aren\u2019t just playing defense\u2014they\u2019re going for total victory. With lawsuits active in the 3rd, 7th, and 9th Circuits, the legal roadmap is clear: win favorable rulings, take the issue to the Supreme Court, and permanently erase suppressor bans across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf we win, <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/accessories\/supressors\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"asa-leads-charge-to-kill-the-nfa\" title=\"ASA Leads Charge to Kill the NFA\">suppressors<\/a> will be legal in all 50 states for the first time in American history,\u201d said Williams. \u201cAnd no state, city, or federal agency will ever be able to ban them again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fight isn\u2019t easy.
