Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) have teamed up with Pennsylvania resident Bonita Shreve to take on a dusty old law that\u2019s still trampling gun rights in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GOA sues USPS over its nearly 100-year-old handgun mailing ban, calling it unconstitutional and discriminatory under the Second Amendment.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In a new federal lawsuit, the group is challenging the nearly century-old ban<\/a> on mailing handguns through the U.S. Postal Service \u2014 a ban they say has no basis in the Constitution or American history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 1927, everyday citizens have been barred from shipping handguns<\/a> through USPS. Meanwhile, the government and big-name businesses? They get a pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GOA says this is a classic case of “rules for me, not for thee” \u2014 and they\u2019ve had enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis complaint demonstrates that the federal government\u2019s Prohibition-era ban on mailing handguns violates the Second Amendment,\u201d said Erich Pratt, GOA\u2019s Senior VP. \u201cWe are committed to ending all anti-gun \u2018rules for me, but not for thee,\u2019 in any form they may take.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The complaint argues the ban is \u201cinconsistent with Founding-era historical tradition,\u201d which is the new legal standard under Bruen<\/a><\/em>. And GOA\u2019s making it clear \u2014 this law is not just outdated, it\u2019s discriminatory and unconstitutional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam Paredes, speaking for the GOF board, added,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis law was passed<\/a> in a different time\u2026 In America, using the Postal Service to mail handguns to other law-abiding individuals should not be a felony.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The lawsuit not only takes aim at the USPS policy but at the idea that the government can continue to apply different rules to itself than to citizens \u2014 especially when it comes to a right as fundamental as self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stay tuned. If GOA succeeds, the mailbox might finally be open to the \u201cquintessential self-defense weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
