(<em>Photo: NBC 10 WJAR<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Senate\u2019s version, <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/RI\/bill\/S0359\/2025\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rhode-island-passes-gun-ban\" title=\"Rhode Island Passes Gun Ban!\">S.359A,<\/a> advanced on a 25-11 vote. The House, after initial hesitation, agreed to adopt the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/senate-version-national-concealed-carry-reciprocity-introduced\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rhode-island-passes-gun-ban\" title=\"Rhode Island Passes Gun Ban!\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"397\">Senate\u2019s version<\/a> rather than move forward with its own earlier proposal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That decision sent the bill directly to Governor Dan McKee, who has supported similar legislation in the past and is expected to sign it into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly passed measure bans the sale, manufacture, transfer, and purchase of a broad range of <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/firearms\/rifles\/semi-auto\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rhode-island-passes-gun-ban\" title=\"Rhode Island Passes Gun Ban!\">semi-automatic rifles<\/a>, shotguns, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/firearms\/handguns\/semi-auto\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"rhode-island-passes-gun-ban\" title=\"Rhode Island Passes Gun Ban!\">handguns<\/a>. It&#8217;s mostly based on cosmetic features such as pistol grips, folding stocks, and threaded barrels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike the earlier House version, the final bill does not ban possession of existing firearms that meet the definition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The law includes felony penalties of up to 10 years in prison. And $10,000 in fines for those who violate its terms.
