Brown<\/a><\/em> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/docket\/docketfiles\/html\/public\/24-131.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\"> <em>Ocean State Tactical v. Rhode Island<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both cases targeted bans on <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/search?keyword=AR-15%20Rifles\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\">AR-15-style rifles<\/a> and standard-capacity magazines\u2014laws that gun owners across the country hoped SCOTUS would finally strike down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Supreme Court declines to hear challenge to Maryland&#039;s assault weapons ban\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y-5U0iQHBYI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Supreme Court punted on two &#8220;assault weapons&#8221; cases. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearm industry\u2019s trade association, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/nssf-statement-on-the-denials-of-cert-by-the-u-s-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\">called<\/a> the Court\u2019s denial deeply disappointing. NSSF had funded the <em>Ocean State<\/em> challenge and warned that the justices were allowing lower courts to continue undermining the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We respectfully disagree with Justice Brett Kavanaugh\u2019s statement,&#8221; the NSSF wrote, referencing his comment that the Court should wait another \u201cTerm or two\u201d before stepping in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSSF instead praised Justice Clarence Thomas, who dissented strongly: \u201cI would not wait to decide whether the government can ban the most popular rifle in America. That question is of critical importance to tens of millions of law-abiding AR\u201315 owners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-schiff-show-ca-sen-pushes-assault-weapons-ban\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/schiff-show-ca-sen-pushes-assault-weapons-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\">Schiff Show: CA Sen. Pushes Assault Weapons Ban<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Alan Gottlieb of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) <a href=\"https:\/\/ccrkba.org\/2025\/06\/02\/ccrkba-disappointed-as-scotusdeclines-to-hear-md-gun-ban-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\">echoed<\/a> that frustration, noting that <em>Snope v. Brown<\/em> was a case of &#8220;critical national importance&#8221; for Maryland residents who want access to America\u2019s most popular rifle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur primary concern is that <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-7-most-american-guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"484\">American gun<\/a> owners will have to once again wait for the high court to accept a case and determine whether state level bans violate the Constitution,\u201d he said. Gottlieb acknowledged the Court\u2019s overloaded emergency docket but found hope in Kavanaugh\u2019s suggestion that review may still come soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Washington Gun Law&#8217;s William Kirk didn\u2019t hold back. In a scathing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xaQislu8CFc\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\">video<\/a> breakdown, Kirk slammed the Court\u2019s refusal as a &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; for gun rights. &#8220;We got ourselves a 6-3 conservative majority, do we?&#8221; he asked sarcastically, accusing Kavanaugh of issuing a &#8220;feckless apology letter&#8221; rather than a meaningful dissent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-sig-sauer-cross-sawtooth-magnum\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-sig-sauer-cross-sawtooth-magnum\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\">SIG Sauer Cross Sawtooth Magnum<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirk cited Thomas\u2019 blistering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/24pdf\/24-203_5ie6.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"supreme-court-ducks-assault-weapons-cases\" title=\"Supreme Court Ducks 'Assault Weapons' Cases\">opinion<\/a>, which shredded the Fourth Circuit\u2019s rationale that AR-15s aren&#8217;t protected by the Second Amendment. Thomas argued the burden should be on the government to prove a ban is consistent with the nation&#8217;s historical tradition\u2014a burden Maryland hasn&#8217;t met. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Kirk put it: &#8220;This is a massive slap in the face.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Supreme Court declines to hear challenge to Maryland&#039;s ban on assault weapons\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vXb0I5ykzDA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Are you pissed at the Supreme Court for ducking these &#8220;assault weapons&#8221; cases? <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Thomas wrote, \u201cOur Constitution allows the American people\u2014not the government\u2014to decide which weapons are useful for self-defense. A constitutional guarantee subject to future judges\u2019 assessments of its usefulness is no constitutional guarantee at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For gun owners in states with existing bans, Kirk says this means more pain ahead. &#8220;Better buckle up.
