Billionaire business magnate and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg put his foot in his mouth during an interview with Rolling Stone, implying that the districts in Colorado that recalled two state lawmakers and forced another one to resign for supporting tougher gun laws last summer were roadless and overly rural.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe NRA went after two or three state Senators in a part of Colorado where I don\u2019t think there\u2019s roads,” said Bloomberg, the main benefactor of Everytown for Gun Safety. “It\u2019s as far rural as you can get.”<\/p>\n
“And, yes, they lost recall elections,” he added. “I\u2019m sorry for that. We tried to help \u2018em. But the bottom line is, the law is on the books, and being enforced. You can get depressed about the progress, but on the other hand, you\u2019re saving a lot of lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Colorado Sens. Angela Giron (Pueblo) and John Morse (Colorado Springs) were recalled and Evie Hudak (D Arvada and Westminster) resigned in the face of a recall effort despite Bloomberg’s political contributions to the the tune of $350,000. <\/p>\n
All three lawmakers supported the state’s controversial universal background check measure and its ban on magazines that hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition. The laws were passed in the aftermath of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.<\/p>\n
