Oklahoma just passed House Bill 2818\u2014and it\u2019s a big upgrade for property defense. Signed by Gov. Stitt on May 15, the bill immediately went into effect thanks to an emergency enactment clause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/OK\/bill\/HB2818\/2025\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"oklahoma-citizens-can-now-point-guns-to-defend-property\" title=\"Oklahoma: Citizens Can Now Point Guns to Defend Property!\">HB 2818<\/a> do? It updates Oklahoma&#8217;s firearm statutes to say this loud and clear: if you&#8217;re a <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/millions-more-lawful-gun-owners-antigun-state-govs-plug-crime-going-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"oklahoma-citizens-can-now-point-guns-to-defend-property\" title=\"Oklahoma: Citizens Can Now Point Guns to Defend Property!\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"557\">lawful gun owner<\/a>, you now have the right to point a firearm not just in defense of yourself or others, but also to defend your property. Now? The law covers your property, too. Whether it\u2019s your home, your business, or your barn\u2014you\u2019ve got the green light to defend it with a visible firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill amends felony firearm statutes to make sure that pointing a weapon during a legitimate defensive display is not a criminal act. Even better? You don\u2019t have to wait for something to escalate before showing you\u2019re ready to defend what\u2019s yours.
