The conversation took place at SIG&#8217;s New Hampshire facility, where Harmsen was given full access to the factory floor, testing labs, and internal testing data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not here to defend or condemn the handgun,\u201d Harmsen said at the outset, \u201cI\u2019m here for informational purposes.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What followed was one of the most comprehensive breakdowns yet of SIG\u2019s internal safety mechanisms, testing protocols, and response to public concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-addressing-the-sig-p320-drop-fire-controversy\">Addressing the SIG P320 Drop-Fire Controversy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of the controversy dates back to early drop-test videos where unaltered P320s were shown discharging when dropped at specific angles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strader explained that the original models\u2014compliant with both SAMMI and NATO drop standards at the time\u2014could be induced to fire if dropped from greater heights and at unconventional angles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That prompted SIG\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigsauer.com\/p320-voluntary-upgrade-program\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sig-defends-p320\" title=\"SIG Defends P320: 'It Cannot Fire Without a Trigger Pull'\">voluntary upgrade program<\/a>, which reduced the mass of internal components like the trigger and striker, and added a secondary sear notch and a captive striker safety lever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe did a lot to make sure we could survive an unreasonable drop test,\u201d Strader said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-no-replicable-failures\">No Replicable Failures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Strader was adamant that despite claims on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2uHy8YOQexo\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sig-defends-p320\" title=\"SIG Defends P320: 'It Cannot Fire Without a Trigger Pull'\">social media<\/a> and in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrace.org\/2024\/12\/sig-sauer-p320-safety-lawsuit-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sig-defends-p320\" title=\"SIG Defends P320: 'It Cannot Fire Without a Trigger Pull'\">legal filings<\/a>, no one\u2014inside or outside the company\u2014has been able to replicate an uncommanded discharge in the lab without physically pulling the trigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe along with major police departments, agencies, and even the experts hired by attorneys attacking the firearm have all come to the same conclusion: they cannot replicate these incidents without a trigger pull,\u201d Strader said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-holster-interference-a-real-risk\">Holster Interference a Real Risk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Strader demonstrated how poorly designed or incompatible holsters can allow foreign objects like keys or seatbelt buckles to enter through the gap between the holster body and trigger guard\u2014especially with duty lights attached. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He cited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigsauer.com\/blog\/sig-sauer-statement-on-montville-ct-police-department-incident\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sig-defends-p320\" title=\"SIG Defends P320: 'It Cannot Fire Without a Trigger Pull'\">Montville Police Department incident<\/a>, where video appears to show a key dangling from a belt keeper slipping into a duty holster and depressing the trigger as an officer stood up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t a gun issue\u2014it\u2019s a system issue,\u201d Strader said, showing examples of similar vulnerabilities with Glocks and other striker-fired pistols. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He praised holster companies now updating designs to block trigger access entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-army-swaps-not-related-to-safety\">Army Swaps Not Related to Safety<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another flashpoint came when the U.S. Army <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/07\/26\/nx-s1-5023043\/sig-sauer-guns-military-new-hampshire-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sig-defends-p320\" title=\"SIG Defends P320: 'It Cannot Fire Without a Trigger Pull'\">swapped<\/a> out its early <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/search?keyword=m17\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sig-defends-p320\" title=\"SIG Defends P320: 'It Cannot Fire Without a Trigger Pull'\">M17s<\/a>. Some speculated this was related to safety concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strader clarified it was part of a planned upgrade involving slide weights and control finishes for enhanced reliability with military-issued ammunition\u2014not any mechanical defect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere were no <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/sig-issues-recall-notice-certain-rifles\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sig-defends-p320\" title=\"SIG Defends P320: 'It Cannot Fire Without a Trigger Pull'\">safety issues<\/a>,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was a reliability upgrade\u2014and the timing with the lawsuits was just really unfortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-millions-in-circulation-microscopic-failure-rate\">Millions in Circulation, Microscopic Failure Rate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Strader estimated SIG has produced more than 3.5 million P320s, and that uncommanded discharge claims represent \u201c0.00001%\u201d of those guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;That\u2019s one one-hundredth of a percent,\u201d Strader said. \u201cThe more guns are out there, the potential for claims like this are going to go up\u2026 but that doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s a problem with the gun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rigorous-testing-exceeds-military-standards\">Rigorous Testing Exceeds Military Standards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Strader, SIG\u2019s internal testing exceeds military standards, with more drop orientations, vibration testing, mud and sand testing, and salt-fog exposure than the official protocols demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also confirmed that foreign militaries and domestic law enforcement agencies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigsauer.com\/blog\/delaware-state-police-adopts-sig-sauer-p320-pistols-with-factory-installed-romeo1pro-red-dot-optic\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"sig-defends-p320\" title=\"SIG Defends P320: 'It Cannot Fire Without a Trigger Pull'\">continue<\/a> to adopt the P320, even as some departments reevaluate or pause new purchases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll we ask is that decisions be based on facts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-manual-language-clarified\">Manual Language Clarified<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Strader also addressed concerns that SIG\u2019s updated owner\u2019s manual discourages carrying with a round in the chamber. He called that claim misleading<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasized that while carrying with a round chambered is completely safe for trained users, SIG also acknowledges that less experienced gun owners might prefer additional caution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The manual outlines safer carry options, but it does not discourage condition-one carry for those who are confident and properly trained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-final-word-we-stand-behind-the-320\">Final Word: \u201cWe Stand Behind the 320\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Strader closed by stressing SIG\u2019s transparency and continued evolution. \u201cThis is the most tested firearm we\u2019ve ever made,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd we\u2019re still testing, improving, and listening to end users every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harmsen echoed that sentiment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve toured manufacturing facilities all over the world,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I will say that the level of
