It has to do with sovereignty \u2013 which would make sense \u2013 except Mexico had no qualms about trampling on U.S. sovereignty when it filed a lawsuit against members of the firearm industry in an attempt to dictate Second Amendment rights right here in America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mexico\u2019s President Sheinbaum responded to questions at a recent public event that followed a Wall Street Journal&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/americas\/trump-mexicos-sheinbaum-spar-over-drug-cartels-f3aae16c\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">report<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;detailing tense discussions between the two countries surrounding the offer to combat narco-terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mexico\u2019s president rejects Trump\u2019s troop plan\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9EcEM96Q1aU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe said, \u2018How can we help you fight drug trafficking? I propose that the United States military come in and help you.\u2019 And you know what I said to him? \u2018No, President Trump,\u2019\u201d President Sheinbaum stated during a speech in eastern Mexico,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.btimesonline.com\/articles\/174071\/20250504\/mexico-s-president-sheinbaum-rejects-trump-s-proposal-to-deploy-u-s-troops-declares-sovereignty-is-not-for-sale.htm\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">according to a Business Times report<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cSovereignty is not for sale. Sovereignty is loved and defended.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added to crowd applause, \u201cWe will never accept the presence of the United States military in our territory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sovereignty-for-who\">Sovereignty for Who?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a curious answer, if not outright hypocrisy. Just two months ago, lawyers for Mexico stood before the U.S. Supreme Court attempting to persuade the justices to allow a $10 billion lawsuit against U.S. firearm manufacturers to proceed and drastically alter Second Amendment rights \u2013 for the citizens of a sovereign nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mexico\u2019s $10 billion claim against U.S. firearm manufacturers in&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/orders\/courtorders\/100424zr_o7jp.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\"><em>Estados Unidos Mexicanos v. Smith &amp; Wesson Brands, Inc., et al.<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, alleges the lawful and heavily regulated U.S. firearm manufacturers\u2019 practices are \u201caiding and abetting\u201d the illegal straw purchase of firearms that are then illegally smuggled by transnational narco-terrorist drug cartels south into Mexico. Those illegally-smuggled firearms are then provided to the cartels and then criminally misused in Mexico which causes Mexico to spend money because of the harm caused by the criminal misuse of those illegally-obtained firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSSF filed an&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/nssf-files-brief-urging-scotus-to-end-mexicos-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">amicus brief<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;supporting&nbsp;<em>Smith &amp; Wesson Brands, Inc., et al.,<\/em>&nbsp;in its petition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case, which was&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/u-s-supreme-court-weighs-mexicos-claims-to-get-around-plcaa\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">argued<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;before the U.S. Supreme Court in March, centered on the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which prohibits frivolous lawsuits against members of &nbsp;the firearm industry for the criminal misuse of firearms by remote third parties. Mexico also attempted to implicate the lawful marketing and distribution practices by U.S. firearm manufacturers. Mexico\u2019s lawyers contend that not only are U.S. firearm manufacturers allegedly \u201caiding and abetting\u201d in transnational illegal firearm smuggling, they are also to blame for Mexican drug cartels criminally misusing firearms because of the advertising of those products, which are legal for sale to law-abiding U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mexico, which now rejects U.S. assistance to fight their narco-terrorist drug cartels over concerns of sovereignty, had no apprehensions of walking into the highest court in the United States to demand that Second Amendment rights protected by the U.S. Constitution should be dictated by morays of a foreign entity that has proven itself incapable of bringing those cartel bosses to justice in Mexican courtroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The irony is thick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-justices-had-questions\">Justices Had Questions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even <a data-wpil-monitor-id=\"589\" href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/former-supreme-court-justice-14th-amendment-covers-gay-marriage-not-second-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\"><strong>Supreme Court justices<\/strong><\/a> indicated as much in their questions during oral arguments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The justices asked how Mexico\u2019s claims weren\u2019t impugning U.S. sovereignty by dictating through their lawsuit how many guns, which types of guns and how those guns must be sold. Chief Justice John Roberts asked what the minimum number of illegally-trafficked guns must be for the Court to weigh in favor of Mexico. He also asked if a particular design must be considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have a number of criteria or examples, you know, the gun says this or it looks like a military weapon and it has an American flag, and, you know, I \u2013 Zapata\u2019s quote about better to die on your feet than live on your knees.&nbsp; I mean, those are all things that are not illegal in any way,\u201d&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/oral_arguments\/argument_transcripts\/2024\/23-1141_5i36.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">Chief Justice John Roberts said<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cAnd the idea \u2013 I mean, there are some people who want the experience of shooting a particular type of gun because they find it more enjoyable than using a \u2013 a BB gun. And I just wonder exactly what the defendant, the manufacturer is supposed to \u2013 to do in that situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catherine Stetson, a lawyer representing Mexico,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/oral_arguments\/argument_transcripts\/2024\/23-1141_5i36.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">pointed<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;to three particular firearms she said were attractive for narco-terrorist crime bosses as examples of how U.S. firearm manufacturers are making firearms sought by the drug cartels. Noel Francisco, a former U.S. Solicitor General representing&nbsp; the manufacturers,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/oral_arguments\/argument_transcripts\/2024\/23-1141_5i36.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">dismissed<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;that claim as \u201cabsurd.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe notion that selling a Spanish-named firearm is what gives rise to joint purpose with cartels under the aiding and abetting statute is as wrong as it is offensive,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/oral_arguments\/argument_transcripts\/2024\/23-1141_5i36.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\"><strong>said<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;Francisco in rebuttal. \u201cThere are, after all, millions of perfectly law-abiding Spanish-speaking Americans in this country that find those firearms very attractive. And making those firearms available cannot possibly cross the line into aiding and abetting liability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/vortex-defender-series-adds-green-reticle-options\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">Vortex Defender Series Adds Green Reticle Options<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Justice Samuel Alito questioned Mexico\u2019s abuse of the American judicial system, asking if the Mexican government would invoke sovereign immunity in U.S. courts if the tables were turned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo the \u2013 the argument basically \u2013 so, it\u2019s a one-way street?,\u201d&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/oral_arguments\/argument_transcripts\/2024\/23-1141_5i36.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\">Justice Alito asked<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cThe Government of Mexico can sue U.S. manufacturers here for harm caused in Mexico, but one of the states here can\u2019t sue the Government of Mexico for cause \u2013 for harm caused in the United States?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mexico, apparently, does view sovereignty as a one-way street. From President Sheinbaum\u2019s perspective, it is not only implausible but impossible for the United States to assist Mexico in fighting narco-terrorists inside Mexico because of Mexico\u2019s sovereignty. Mexico is the sole authority inside their own borders. However, President Sheinbaum had no issue with her lawyers marching into the U.S. Supreme Court to demand that the Second Amendment rights belonging to \u201cthe People\u201d of the United States must bow to the whims of Mexico\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. <a data-wpil-monitor-id=\"590\" href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/supreme-court-delivers-win-for-young-gun-owners\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"now-mexico-is-concerned-about-sovereignty\" title=\"Now Mexico is Concerned About Sovereignty\"><strong>Supreme Court is expected to
