Florida, always at the tip of the spear for pushing freedom-based laws, is advancing a bill that would allow homeowners to use <a href=\"https:\/\/dronelife.com\/2025\/04\/22\/florida-bill-proposes-homeowners-could-use-force-against-drones-over-private-property\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\"><em>reasonable force<\/em> to take down<\/a> drones flying too low over their property \u2014 specifically within 500 feet and under 200 feet of altitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Noir summed it up perfectly: if a drone is hovering outside your window, recording your every move like it\u2019s starring in a weird DIY documentary, why shouldn\u2019t you have the right to defend your airspace? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Shooting Drones Legally\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3Q_08XqlPFo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Florida has introduced a drone defense bill.  Do you support shooting down drones on your property?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a legally-owned <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/firearms\/shotguns\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\">shotgun<\/a>, no less. As he put it, \u201cif it\u2019s hovering low enough for me to hit it with some birdshot, I can treat it like a clay pigeon with a camera.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sounds awesome, right? Well, of course, the federal government \u2014 and specifically the FAA \u2014 has jumped in to say \u201chold on.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-can-you-shoot-down-a-drone\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/can-you-shoot-down-a-drone\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\">Can You Shoot Down a Drone?<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the feds, drones are considered <em>aircraft<\/em>, and shooting at them could bring serious federal charges. Florida might say \u201cblast away,\u201d but <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/uncle-sam-owes-you-a-gun\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"654\">Uncle Sam<\/a> still says &#8220;touch an aircraft, and we&#8217;ll see you in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colion walked through the messy legal tug-of-war this creates. <em>PCMag<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/florida-explores-letting-people-shoot-intrusive-drones-out-of-the-sky\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\">pointed<\/a> out how vague \u201creasonable force\u201d really is. <em>Gizmodo<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/florida-bill-would-let-florida-men-shoot-down-intrusive-drones-2000592693\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\">highlighted<\/a> how federal and state laws might clash. <em>American Military News<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/americanmilitarynews.com\/2025\/04\/spy-drones-may-be-taken-out-with-force-by-homeowners-in-florida-under-new-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\">warned<\/a> of lawsuits if the law isn\u2019t crystal clear. And <em>Fox New<\/em>s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6371893493112\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\">reminded<\/a> everyone Florida already has privacy protections \u2014 this bill would just add more teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then Noir threw on the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/media-bias-against-gun-owners-were-all-tinfoil-hat-rednecks\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"noir-shooting-drones-legally\" title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"655\">tinfoil hat<\/a> (and let\u2019s be honest, he might not be wrong): What if the federal government\u2019s real concern isn&#8217;t protecting hobby drones but keeping <em>their<\/em> surveillance drones off-limits? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, if everything\u2019s protected as \u201caircraft,\u201d even government drones flying title=\"Noir: Shooting Drones Legally\">990 Aftershoc<\/a>k as the perfect &#8220;drone deterrent&#8221; \u2014 lightweight, fast-handling, and, let\u2019s face it, way cooler than lugging a full tactical shotgun to your pool party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the day, Noir boiled it down to one real question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where does defending your privacy end and reckless endangerment begin?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Florida&#8217;s drone defense bill passes, you can bet Floridians will be gearing up \u2014 maybe even setting up backyard \u201cskeet shooting\u201d for intrusive drones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But for now, even if that buzzing machine outside your window is begging for a little shotgun justice, you might want to check with a lawyer before you pull the
