The bill bans the sale, transfer, and manufacture of an ever-growing list of gas-operated semi-autos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It introduces a capacity cap of 10 rounds and demands \u201cpermanently fixed\u201d magazines. If your gun accepts a detachable mag? You\u2019d better hope it\u2019s on their government-approved list\u2014or be ready to hand it in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What about hunting, self-defense, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/trump-declares-support-for-gun-owners\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"federal-semi-auto-ban-returns-gosafe-act\" title=\"Federal Semi-Auto Ban Returns: GOSAFE Act\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"720\">sports shooting<\/a>? Heinrich says you\u2019re still covered\u2014as long as your firearm meets arbitrary \u201cuse-based\u201d exemptions and capacity restrictions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Translation: Politicians get to decide what you need, not you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-backdoor-registry-and-ban\"><strong>A Backdoor Registry and Ban<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Heinrich\u2019s bill also takes a swipe at homebuilders and tinkerers. It seeks to criminalize self-assembly and any modifications the feds deem too effective. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/major-federal-gun-ban-introduced-gosafe-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"federal-semi-auto-ban-returns-gosafe-act\" title=\"Federal Semi-Auto Ban Returns: GOSAFE Act\">Major Federal Gun Ban Introduced: GOSAFE Act!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yes, there\u2019s a buy-back plan too\u2014because what better way to tell lawful Americans their gear is too dangerous than by offering them a government check to hand it in?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-bump-act-another-swipe-at-gun-owners\"><strong>The BUMP Act: Another Swipe at Gun Owners<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/senate-bill\/1909\/text\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"federal-semi-auto-ban-returns-gosafe-act\" title=\"Federal Semi-Auto Ban Returns: GOSAFE Act\">BUMP Act<\/a>, co-sponsored with Senators Susan Collins and Catherine Cortez Masto, bans bump stocks and anything that increases the rate of fire of a semi-auto gun\u2014even if the part wasn\u2019t originally designed to do that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also tacks new firearms onto the National Firearms Act for more regulation and taxation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-here-s-the-problem\"><strong>Here\u2019s the Problem<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This legislation doesn\u2019t go after criminals\u2014it goes after the tool, and more importantly, the people who legally own them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same government that\u2019s failed to crack down on illegal gun trafficking and violent repeat offenders is laser-focused on regulating how many rounds your legal <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/firearms\/rifles\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"federal-semi-auto-ban-returns-gosafe-act\" title=\"Federal Semi-Auto Ban Returns: GOSAFE Act\">rifle<\/a> can hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We can save lives while protecting responsible gun ownership.
