Law-abiding Coloradans now need a <a href=\"https:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/bills\/sb25-003\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"governor-signs-colorados-permission-slip-gun-ban\" title=\"Governor Signs Colorado's Permission Slip Gun Ban\">government permission slip<\/a> to exercise a constitutional right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Colorado Gov. Calling the bill <em>\u201cunconstitutional on its face,\u201d<\/em> NSSF Senior VP and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane blasted the law as a political stunt fueled by gun control groups, saying it targets law-abiding gun owners while doing <em>\u201cnothing to hold criminals accountable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-arbitrary-roadblocks-for-the-most-popular-rifles\">Arbitrary Roadblocks for the Most Popular Rifles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the heart of SB25-003 is a bureaucratic chokehold on the sale of America\u2019s most popular rifle\u2014the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/search?keyword=ar-15\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"governor-signs-colorados-permission-slip-gun-ban\" title=\"Governor Signs Colorado's Permission Slip Gun Ban\">AR-15<\/a> and similar Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With more than 30 million in circulation, these firearms are used daily for hunting, sport shooting, and personal protection. Yet under this law, anyone wanting to buy one will need to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Seek sheriff approval based on vague, subjective criteria<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete an undefined \u201cfirearm certification course\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Undergo a federal NICS background check<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And if your local sheriff simply <em>believes<\/em> you might be a future danger? Your right to buy a firearm can be denied or revoked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-not-about-safety-about-control\">Not About Safety. About Control.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As the NSSF <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/nssf-condemns-gov-polis-signature-of-unconstitutional-law-limiting-second-amendment-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"governor-signs-colorados-permission-slip-gun-ban\" title=\"Governor Signs Colorado's Permission Slip Gun Ban\">points out<\/a>, not a single piece of this legislation targets criminals or addresses actual misuse of firearms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, it criminalizes lawful sales and imposes layers of red tape on people who already follow the rules. It\u2019s a political move wrapped in \u201cpublic safety\u201d packaging\u2014and it treats every gun owner like a potential threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-final-thoughts-on-colorado-s-gun-ban\">Final Thoughts on Colorado&#8217;s Gun Ban <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Second Amendment doesn\u2019t come with strings attached, and it certainly doesn\u2019t require permission from a local bureaucrat.
