offers a lightweight yet rugged solution for shooters looking to stabilize their rifles, shotguns, or crossbows on a tripod. With its magnesium construction and Arca-Swiss compatibility, it provides a versatile mounting option that doesn’t require permanent firearm modifications. Another huge plus is that this mount is compatible with any tripod that has an Arca mount. So let’s dive into the specifics!

Arca-Swiss and 3/8″-16 Mounting Options

The mounting system is simple. Many companies make proprietary tripod accessories, but Vortex gives you options. The clamp integrates directly with Arca-Swiss mounts, allowing it to attach directly to tripods like the Vortex Switchback Carbon.

The Pro Rifle Clamp utilizes an Arca rail and even rail stops that can be removed

If your tripod lacks an Arca-Swiss mount, the 3/8″-16 mounting thread offers an alternative. The dual-mounting system eliminates the need for extra adapters, making it easy to switch between setups.

The Pro Rifle Clamp also utilizes a 3/8″-16 mounting thread

This also means that the Vortex Pro Rifle Clamp can work with any tripod on the market that utilizes an Arca-Swiss mount. This gives plenty of options and compatibility with many of your existing setups. Also, it allows a quick transition from an Arca mount to this clamp.

Vortex’s mount can easily be attached to any tripod with an Arca clamp

Up until now, I have had one tripod with an Arca-Swiss clamp for my chassis guns, and a separate tripod with a clamp for all rifles without a bottom Arca rail. With the Pro Rifle Clamp, I can quickly attach this to my Arca tripod clamp when I want to use a more traditional rifle and remove it when I want to run a rifle with a bottom Arca rail.

Having the Pro Rifle Mount avoids the necessity of adding an Arca rail to the bottom of my rifle (both uncomfortable and awkward when not being used on a tripod)

Fast and Versatile Adjustment

One standout feature is the fully adjustable clamping mechanism. It accommodates a wide range of rifle stocks and handguards, with an opening width from 1.3″ to 3.2″. Unlike many clamps that adjust from just one side, this one tightens symmetrically, so it opens and closes faster than one sided clamps I have used. This design is a simple but effective improvement over competing models.

The left image is the clamp all the way pinched down, and the right is fully opened up to 3.2″

Secure, Non-Slip Grip

Stability is crucial, and this clamp delivers with soft durometer rubber jaws. These provide a firm grip without marring the firearm’s surface. The clamping force is strong enough to lock down a rifle securely, yet the rubber padding ensures it doesn’t shift under recoil.

Utilizing rubber on all three contact points avoids scratching your rifle while securing a non-slip grip

Lightweight but Durable Pro Rifle Clamp

Weighing in at just 14.4 ounces, this mount is easy to carry without sacrificing strength. Despite its light frame, it boasts a max load capacity of 44 pounds, making it more than capable of securing full-size rifles. Compared to other clamps I’ve used, it feels noticeably more robust while maintaining portability.

Real-World Performance

I tested the Pro Rifle Clamp on Vortex Switchback Carbon and Two Vets tripods. Typically, I use an ARCA mount and ball head, but this clamp’s wide adjustment range accommodates rifles that lack an Arca rail. The quick-release function means I can swap it in within seconds without needing additional hardware.

The Pro Rifle Clamp always held my rifle safe and securely

One of the best aspects of this mount is its rock-solid build. While some clamps feel flimsy, this one inspires confidence. The clamping lever is long enough to apply solid torque, and the rubberized contact points keep everything steady without damaging the rifle’s finish.

While I don’t want to dive too deep into the benefits of a tripod, they offer so much stability. I have been hunting with a tripod for probably 4 years now. From hunting pigs and coyotes at night to deer in the fall, having the option to utilize a tripod without modifying your existing rifle is a big help. One of the biggest downsides to tripods with clamping systems in the past has been that they only offer 2 axis of adjustment. However, since the Pro Rifle Clamp attaches to a ball head, I can now tilt side to side as well.

Utilizing the Vortex Pro Rifle Clamp, out pig hunting with my buddies at Black Sheep Outdoors.
