Ken DeGraaf \u2013 a Republican from Colorado Springs, who is also a&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradohouserepublicans.com\/rep-degraaf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">27-year Air Force veteran<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 was forced to cover a pro-Second Amendment sticker on his laptop computer during debate over a gun ban bill. The bill,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/bills\/sb25-003\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">SB 25-003<\/a><\/strong>, is one of the strictest gun control measures proposed in any state in the nation and is being hotly-debated in Colorado. The proposed law was introduced to ban the sale or transfer of any semiautomatic rifle or shotgun that can accept a detachable magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep. DeGraaf committed the cardinal sin of affixing a pro-Second Amendment sticker to his computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8\ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8COLORADO GOP REP FORCED TO COVER 2A STICKER IN HOUSE CHAMBER<br \/><br \/>State Rep. DeGraaf explained during remarks on the state House\u2019s floor,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/blue-state-gop-rep-forced-remove-2a-sticker-from-laptop-offensive\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">according to Fox News<\/a><\/strong>. He pointed to a piece of paper that covered the offensive sticker \u2013 which wasn\u2019t so offensive or vulgar that it needed to be censored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt said \u2018shall not be infringed\u2019 and signed \u20182-A\u2019 and that was considered offensive, which I understand would be offensive to this bill,\u201d Rep. DeGraaf added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The House speaker presiding over the debate interrupted Rep. DeGraaf&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MarioNawfal\/status\/1903949882567856241\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">to explain<\/a><\/strong>, \u201cThere\u2019s just a rule that we don\u2019t have that type of things [<em>sic<\/em>] in the well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep. DeGraaf understood, answering, \u201cSo, okay. No displays of the Constitution in the well. Got it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The well, for those who might not know, is the area in the state\u2019s House of Representatives between the chamber\u2019s front desk and the first row of the members\u2019 seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rule, it seems, was being enforced to infringe on one Constitutionally-protected right, that of Free Speech, to attack another, the legislation to ban the sale of an entire class of firearms without express permission from the state to exercise that right. In Colorado, the U.S. Constitution seems to not apply. That shows the level of absurdity and depravity of gun control lawmakers to push their unconstitutional agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Constitutionally-Dubious Bill<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill, SB 25-003, is likely days away from passage. It is strongly opposed by NSSF and several other pro-Second Amendment advocacy groups. It has endured a tortured path to arrive on the doorstep of passage. The goal was to find a way to ban the most-popular selling centerfire rifle in America \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/search?keyword=AR-15\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">AR-15<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/search?keyword=Savage%20MSR%2010\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">Modern Sporting Rifle<\/a> (MSR). There are over\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/nssf-releases-most-recent-firearm-production-figures-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">30 million MSRs in circulation today<\/a><\/strong>, more than there are Ford F-150s on the road, the most-popular selling pick-up truck in America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SB 25-003 was introduced in the state Senate has been amended several times and now allows the sale of those firearms provided those purchasing the firearm are vetted by a local sheriff and complete a firearm certification course. House lawmakers stripped out fingerprinting requirements but&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/coloradosun.com\/2025\/03\/11\/senate-bill-3-tweaks-colorado-gun-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">added a provision<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;to allow county sheriffs to vet purchasers to deny an application if they have a \u201creasonable belief that documented previous behavior by the application makes it likely the applicant will present a danger to themself or others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-savage-revel-a-new-lever-action-22\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/savage-revel-a-new-lever-action-22\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">Savage Revel \u2013 A New Lever-Action 22<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheriffs could revoke purchasing permissions under the same standard. The ban bill has essentially turned into a permit-to-purchase bill that seems to run into the same subjective criteria the U.S. Supreme Court rejected in the\u00a0<em>Bruen<\/em>\u00a0decision. Those individuals who have documented criteria that would prohibit a <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/firearms\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">firearm purchase<\/a> would already be flagged by the FBI\u2019s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not every sheriff in Colorado is on board. El Paso County Sheriff Joe Roybal doesn\u2019t support the proposed legislation and testified in the House Judiciary Committee, saying the measure \u201cwill not make Coloradans safer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy banning the purchasing, selling and manufacturing of semi-automatic firearms used by thousands of law-abiding citizens for home and personal safety, this legislation not only jeopardizes the fundamental right to self-defense but also infringes on inherent constitutional rights, setting a dangerous legal precedent for the future of the Second Amendment in Colorado,\u201d Sheriff Roybal testified,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/colorado-sheriff-testifies-against-awb-permit-to-purchase-bill\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CBy%20banning%20the%20purchasing%2C%20selling,setting%20a%20dangerous%20legal%20precedent\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">according to The Truth About Guns<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cProponents of the bill claim it will help curb gun violence; however, SB 25-003 will have the opposite effect. This bill effectively targets law-abiding gun owners rather than criminals, who, by definition, do not follow the law and will obtain a firearm through illegal channels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rush to Pass<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are still unanswered questions over how Colorado would administer these new requirements for purchasing semiautomatic rifles and shotguns that can accept detachable magazines. Currently, once a person obtains a county sheriff\u2019s permit-to-purchase the firearm, that person would need to complete a state-approved certification course administered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. However, no such course curriculum has been approved and funding for the program has yet to be clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis bill is not ready for prime time. It needs more stakeholder process and let\u2019s have some statewide conversations and if a bill is going to pass, it should be in the right form\u2026\u201d said Colorado\u2019s House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kktv.com\/2025\/03\/22\/controversial-gun-ban-bill-moves-through-colorado-legislation-where-bill-goes-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorado-lawmakers-shred-one-right-to-deny-another\" title=\"Colorado Lawmakers Shred One Right to Deny Another\">according to KTTV<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cThey were different funds that would be used, and even today (Friday) on the house floor, there were changes to the funding structure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SB 25-003 has passed Colorado\u2019s Senate and passed the House of Representatives on a second reading. It is expected the bill could be up for a final vote before the week\u2019s end and headed to Gov.
