The next-door neighbor, a homicide officer of 9 years with the HPD, was off-duty when she called.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the father and neighbor arrived, the intruder was still there. The police have not determined what happened when the two officers arrived. They confronted the intruder.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-shots-fired\">Shots Fired<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The conflict grew, and both the father and neighbor shot at the intruder. He received multiple bullet wounds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The homeowner attempted to help him before the deputies arrived. Sheriff Dolittle said they escorted the suspect to nearby Memorial Hermann Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After treatment, officials said the intruder is expected to survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-investigation-into-the-off-duty-cop-and-father\">Investigation Into the Off-Duty Cop and Father<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sheriff\u2019s Office, HPD, and DA\u2019s Office are investigating the shooting now. They placed off-duty officer on standard administrative leave while the investigation is underway.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charges are pending against the \u201cprowler,\u201d Dolittle told <em>Click2Houston<\/em>. Dolittle thanked his deputies in a social media statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am grateful for the diligent efforts of our Deputies, who work tirelessly day in and day out,\u201d Dolittle said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities have not reported whether the homeowner, her father, or the off-duty officer were injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-united-community-is-better\">A United Community Is Better<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A study conducted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/stateline.org\/2024\/10\/04\/crime-is-down-fbi-says-but-politicians-still-choose-statistics-to-fit-their-narratives\/#:~:text=The%20rate%20of%20violent%20crime,slightly%20below%20the%202019%20rate.\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"off-duty-texas-cop-shoots-intruder\" title=\"Off-Duty Texas Cop Shoots Intruder\">studies<\/a>, on the other hand, claim that our crime rates are
