Heller <\/em><\/a>decision. Yet, the bill targets them under the pretext of reducing violence, ignoring the fact that millions of law-abiding Americans responsibly own these firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-permit-to-purchase-loophole\"><strong>The Permit-to-Purchase Loophole<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After heavy criticism, lawmakers amended the bill to include a permit-to-purchase system, which grants exemptions for buying banned firearms. But the requirements are no joke:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>4 hours of firearms education for those who already have a Hunter\u2019s Safety Course or concealed carry permit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>12 hours of education for those without either credential.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t about safety\u2014it&#8217;s about creating barriers. By making the process so complicated, they\u2019re betting that fewer people will bother to apply. And that\u2019s the goal: chilling <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/states-weak-gun-laws-higher-gun-ownership-lead-nation-gun-deaths-says-anti-gun-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorados-semi-automatic-ban-a-permit-to-purchase-trojan-horse\" title=\"Colorado\u2019s Semi-Automatic Ban: A Permit-to-Purchase Trojan Horse\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2661\">lawful gun ownership<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-exceptions-and-loopholes-but-not-for-you\"><strong>Exceptions and Loopholes\u2014But Not for You<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill\u2019s exceptions are telling. You can transfer a banned firearm to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>An heir<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>An individual residing in another state<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A federally licensed firearm dealer<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It also exempts <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/the-mil-leo-only-guns-from-your-favorite-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"colorados-semi-automatic-ban-a-permit-to-purchase-trojan-horse\" title=\"Colorado\u2019s Semi-Automatic Ban: A Permit-to-Purchase Trojan Horse\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2660\">law enforcement<\/a> agencies, military forces, armored vehicle businesses, gunsmiths, and educational programs. Notice a pattern? If you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Manufacture, distribute, transfer, sell, or purchase a specified semiautomatic firearm, you\u2019re looking at a Class 2 misdemeanor.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A second or subsequent offense bumps it up to a Class 6 felony.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Get convicted, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation will block you from buying any firearm for five years. If it\u2019s a felony conviction, you\u2019ll face a lifetime firearm ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is how they plan to disarm law-abiding citizens\u2014by turning them into criminals over paperwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-unconstitutional-overreach-you-bet\"><strong>Unconstitutional Overreach? You Bet.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This bill flies in the face of the Second Amendment and the District of Columbia v. Heller decision, which explicitly protects firearms \u201cin common use.\u201d The permit-to-purchase requirement is just a backdoor registration scheme, putting more hurdles between citizens and their constitutional rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Rifle Association (NRA) calls this out for what it is\u2014unconstitutional and a blatant attempt at civilian disarmament. And they\u2019re right.
