But Lott noted that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) homicide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=atPjXzA7TY8\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"lott-exposes-manipulated-crime-data-on-full-measure\" title=\"Lott Exposes Manipulated Crime Data on 'Full Measure'\">data<\/a> shows the opposite, with 2022 numbers exceeding 2020 levels. The discrepancy raises concerns about how crime is actually being tracked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-unreported-crimes-are-rising\"><strong>Unreported Crimes Are Rising<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lott also highlighted a sharp increase in crimes not reported to police. The National Crime Victimization Survey\u2014which surveys individuals rather than relying on police reports\u2014showed a <a href=\"https:\/\/bjs.ojp.gov\/document\/cv22.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"lott-exposes-manipulated-crime-data-on-full-measure\" title=\"Lott Exposes Manipulated Crime Data on 'Full Measure'\">42% jump<\/a> in violent crime for 2022, even as FBI-reported violent crime &#8220;declined&#8221; by 2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lott attributes this to a collapse in law enforcement\u2014from declining police forces to policies that discourage arrests and prosecutions. He pointed to a 55% drop in arrests for <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/lott-was-right-fbi-revises-violent-crime-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"lott-exposes-manipulated-crime-data-on-full-measure\" title=\"Lott Exposes Manipulated Crime Data on 'Full Measure'\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2665\">violent crimes<\/a> and a 65% drop in arrests for property crimes in large cities since 2020. With fewer officers, fewer arrests, and more crime going unreported, the \u201cdeclining crime\u201d narrative becomes suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-illegal-immigration-amp-crime-data-suppression\"><strong>Illegal Immigration &amp; Crime Data Suppression<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lott also challenged the widely repeated claim that <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/federal-court-affirms-that-illegal-immigrants-cannot-possess-firearms\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"lott-exposes-manipulated-crime-data-on-full-measure\" title=\"Lott Exposes Manipulated Crime Data on 'Full Measure'\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2666\">illegal immigrants<\/a> commit fewer crimes than U.S. citizens. He explained that <a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2025\/01\/after-removing-immigration-related-crimes-the-percent-of-foreign-citizens-in-federal-prison-is-46-6-higher-their-share-of-the-us-population\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"lott-exposes-manipulated-crime-data-on-full-measure\" title=\"Lott Exposes Manipulated Crime Data on 'Full Measure'\">data<\/a> separating legal and illegal immigrants is rarely collected and, when it is, illegal immigrants show significantly higher violent crime rates. He believes the push to obscure crime data is politically motivated, particularly to downplay concerns about illegal immigration\u2019s impact on crime rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-bottom-line\"><strong>The Bottom Line<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lott argues that crime isn\u2019t decreasing\u2014it\u2019s just being counted differently. Underreported crime, missing police data, and selective government statistics are shaping public perception rather than reflecting reality. His analysis raises important questions about how political interests influence what data is collected, reported, and ultimately believed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopefully, things change under the Trump
