Mason<\/a><\/em>, takes aim at the state\u2019s new law that prohibits young adults from acquiring, possessing, or carrying any semiautomatic firearm or <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/firearms\/handguns\/semi-auto\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"saf-sues-massachusetts-over-gun-ban-for-young-adults\" title=\"SAF Sues Massachusetts Over Gun Ban for Young Adults\">handgun<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAF is joined by the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners Action League, Commonwealth Second Amendment, and Firearms Policy Coalition, along with lead plaintiff Mack Escher. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defendants include Col. Christopher Mason, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, and Heath J. Eldredge, chief of police in Brewster, Mass. They are being sued in their official capacities for enforcing the law, which was signed by Gov. Maura Healey in July 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lawsuit-challenges-the-ban-as-unconstitutional\"><strong>Lawsuit Challenges the Ban as Unconstitutional<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SAF Executive <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/vote-adam-kraut-76th-seat-nra-board-directors\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"saf-sues-massachusetts-over-gun-ban-for-young-adults\" title=\"SAF Sues Massachusetts Over Gun Ban for Young Adults\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2671\">Director Adam Kraut<\/a> made it clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cMassachusetts\u2019s law barring 18-20-year-olds from being able to acquire, possess, and carry commonly possessed firearms fails to comport with the Constitution\u2019s command. These adult individuals are entitled to the full scope of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/massachusetts-courts-decide-stun-guns-arent-protected-by-second-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"saf-sues-massachusetts-over-gun-ban-for-young-adults\" title=\"SAF Sues Massachusetts Over Gun Ban for Young Adults\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2670\">Second Amendment\u2019s protections<\/a>, yet the State has opted to affirmatively treat them as if they have less rights.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb added that Massachusetts, like other anti-gun states, tries to justify its restrictions as \u201cgun safety\u201d measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t about guns, it\u2019s about rights.
