You Can\u2019t Make This Up\">broke<\/a> in through the kitchen window. His friend, who had just returned from a trip to the Bahamas with him, was held at gunpoint in the living room. You Can\u2019t Make This Up\">Best New Pistols \u2014 SHOT Show 2025<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as the gunman entered the bedroom, chaos erupted. Nevers and the intruder exchanged fire, leaving Nevers with a shattered foot and a bullet wound in his back. His girlfriend was also shot\u2014the bullet traveled through her back and lodged near her chest, too dangerous to remove. Despite his injuries, Nevers survived the ordeal, but the physical and emotional scars will take time to heal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-high-price-for-a-low-reward\"><strong>A High Price for a Low Reward<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspects clearly thought they were going to walk away with some valuable loot, but their <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/saf-scores-big-win-massachusetts-gun-shops-to-reopen\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"a-shootout-over-don-julio-and-a-chocolate-bar-you-cant-make-this-up\" title=\"A Shootout Over Don Julio and a Chocolate Bar? You Can\u2019t Make This Up\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2794\">big score<\/a> turned out to be nothing more than a bottle of Don Julio tequila, a chocolate bar, and a studio microphone. Nevers himself couldn\u2019t believe it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;These guys did this for nothing,&#8221; he told <em>Fox 2 Detroit. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspected gunman, Phillip Price, was arrested and now faces a laundry list of charges, including assault with intent to murder and armed robbery as part of a 21-count indictment. Police believe Price knew Nevers and was specifically targeting items inside the home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-reminder-of-why-self-defense-matters\"><strong>A Reminder of Why Self-Defense Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This wild shootout is yet another reminder of why the right to self-defense is so critical. Nevers didn\u2019t ask for a fight, but when it came to his doorstep, he was prepared. Even with injuries, he and his loved ones are alive today because he had the means to defend himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in the end, all this violence, all this destruction\u2014for a bottle of tequila and a candy bar. It\u2019s almost too absurd to believe, but it\u2019s a stark reality check: <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/violent-criminals-dont-get-their-guns-from-gun-stores-chicago-inmates-confess\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"a-shootout-over-don-julio-and-a-chocolate-bar-you-cant-make-this-up\" title=\"A Shootout Over Don Julio and a Chocolate Bar? I mean, I really\u2026 I&#8217;m kind of glad the guy who shot me is still alive, too.
