How Often Do You Carry?\" data-level=\"3\">Takeaway<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It turns out people in constitutional carry states (where no permit is required to carry) are more likely to carry concealed handguns than those in right-to-carry states (where permits are required). And while there\u2019s little difference between right-to-carry states and the seven former may-issue states (before the <em>Bruen<\/em> decision) when it comes to carrying <em>all or most of the time<\/em>, there\u2019s a notable gap when looking at people who carry <em>at least occasionally<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-big-numbers-who-s-carrying\">The Big Numbers: Who\u2019s Carrying?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>24%<\/strong> of general election voters say they carry concealed handguns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>13%<\/strong> carry <em>all or most of the time<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>7%<\/strong> carry <em>all the time<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>6%<\/strong> carry <em>most of the time<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-demographic-breakdown\">Demographic Breakdown<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey also revealed some interesting patterns:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hispanics and Black Americans are more likely to carry concealed than White Americans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This holds true for both men and women in those groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Given that Black Americans are statistically more likely to be victims of <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/lott-was-right-fbi-revises-violent-crime-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"be-honest-how-often-do-you-carry\" title=\"Be Honest!  How Often Do You Carry?\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3401\">violent crime<\/a>, this trend makes a lot of sense.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-geography-and-politics-matter\">Geography and Politics Matter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The South leads the way in concealed carry rates, followed closely by the West, and then the Midwest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Republicans and conservatives are the most likely to carry, but it\u2019s worth noting that even a surprising number of liberals are exercising their right to self-defense.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urban and rural voters report the highest rates of carrying, showing that self-defense isn\u2019t limited to one type of environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-next\">What\u2019s Next?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This survey didn\u2019t specifically ask if respondents are <em>legally<\/em> carrying, but since the sample is limited to general election voters, it\u2019s safe to assume these individuals lean more law-abiding than the general population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CPRC plans to follow up with another survey breaking down whether people are legally carrying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-takeaway\">Takeaway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The numbers make one thing clear: when states remove barriers to carrying concealed handguns, more law-abiding citizens choose to do so.
