He made his way straight past the expensive merchandise, ignoring it as he bee-lined for the back of the store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of a sudden, the guy kicked the door. Boom, it was that quick,\u201d Robert said. The business owner said the loud noise sounded like a gun firing, and he thought the burglar had shot him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspect had a butane lighter in his hand and Robert mistook it for a gun.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-grandpa-saves-the-day\">Grandpa Saves The Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;He charged at me. He didn&#8217;t run away,&#8221; Robert said. &#8220;He had an intent to come in the building and kill me.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robert shot the suspect, stopping the burglar from harming him or his grandkids. The grandpa called 911 and when police arrived, they <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/hunt365-tennessee-hunter-murders\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-deputies-agree-with-grandpa-who-shot-burglar\" title=\"California Deputies Agree With Grandpa Who Shot Burglar\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3611\">found the suspect dead<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police identified the burglar as an unarmed man in his 30s. Robert\u2019s gun, a gift from his father in 1958, is registered in his name.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deputies told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.live5news.com\/2024\/11\/26\/grandfather-says-he-shot-burglar-protect-his-grandsons-my-babies-are-alive\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-deputies-agree-with-grandpa-who-shot-burglar\" title=\"California Deputies Agree With Grandpa Who Shot Burglar\"><em>KCRA<\/em> <\/a>they are treating the case like a homicide.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t something that we\u2019re encouraging \u2013 vigilantism, by any stretch,\u201d Sgt. Amar Gandhi with the Sacramento County sheriff\u2019s office said according to <em>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/27\/us-news\/grandfather-shot-burglar-dead-to-protect-his-grandsons-my-babies-are-alive\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-deputies-agree-with-grandpa-who-shot-burglar\" title=\"California Deputies Agree With Grandpa Who Shot Burglar\">New York Post<\/a><\/em>. \u201cBut at the same time, you have to applaud him. He demonstrated restraint. He did what he had to do to protect the people inside, including himself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-outside-opinions\">Outside Opinions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Robert\u2019s actions protecting his grandkids met with approval from other people too. A man named Sunny passed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/another-fast-furious-gun-recovered-crime-scene\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"california-deputies-agree-with-grandpa-who-shot-burglar\" title=\"California Deputies Agree With Grandpa Who Shot Burglar\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3612\">crime scene<\/a> the next morning and had something to say.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have to protect yourself. You have to do it,\u201d Sunny told <em>KCRA<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robert and his grandsons escaped the ordeal without injury.
