Arons refused, responding, \u201cI can\u2019t\u201d several times, and began walking toward Officer Smith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the situation escalated, both Officer Smith and Officer Burns discharged their weapons, firing three shots in total when Arons continued advancing with the axe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aftermath-and-medical-assistance\">Aftermath and Medical Assistance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After the shots were fired, officers immediately rendered medical aid to Arons until emergency personnel arrived. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arons was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-charges-filed\">Charges Filed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the incident, Arons was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of vandalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-reminder-of-the-risks-law-enforcement-face\">A Reminder of the Risks Law Enforcement Face<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This incident underscores the challenges officers face in high-pressure situations where <a href=\"https:\/\/gunsamerica.com\/digest\/maryland-cop-shoots-groundhog\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"bodycam-knoxville-cops-shoot-axe-wielding-suspect\" title=\"Bodycam: Knoxville Cops Shoot Axe-Wielding Suspect\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3637\">public safety<\/a> is at risk.
