class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-new">What’s New?

The RH25 V2 builds on the foundation of the original by addressing user feedback and integrating cutting-edge upgrades:

Higher-Resolution Display: A 1440×1080 AMOLED display delivers images with 97% more pixels and an 80% larger viewing area than the V1, drastically improving clarity, especially in clip-on configurations.

Enhanced Sensor Sensitivity: The RH25 V2 boasts a ≤15mK NETD rating (the original was ≤50mK), providing sharper images and better detail in challenging thermal environments.

Improved Weight and Ergonomics: Thanks to a machined magnesium alloy body, the V2 weighs just 11.3 ounces—a reduction from the 12.7 ounces of the original—making it even more comfortable for helmet mounting.

USB-C Charging Port: The addition of a USB-C port allows for running external <a battery.

Refined Eyepiece Design: The larger eyepiece makes helmet-mounted use significantly easier while improving compatibility with magnified optics in clip-on mode.

Specifications for the InfiRay RH25V2

<div class="wp-block-group predecessor so successful. Whether used as a handheld scanner, helmet-mounted monocular, dedicated weapon sight, or clip-on thermal, the RH25 V2 is the Jack of all trades. I would say it excels as a lightweight clip-on for LPVOs and helmet-mounted use. While there are better clip-on thermals for higher magnification optics, and clearer stand-alone thermal scopes, for those who can only afford one thermal, the RH25 V2 is worth some heavy consideration.

Running the RH25 V2 as a clip-on for hog hunting

RH25 V2 Out of the Box

The RH25 V2 comes well-equipped straight from the factory, ensuring you have everything needed to get started. Included is a durable Pelican-style hard carrying case, providing excellent protection for storage and transport. The package also contains two rechargeable batteries, a charger, a rifle mount for clip-on use, an owner’s manual for guidance, and a Bluetooth remote.

All included contents

While not included, InfiRay Outdoor also sells a Pictail shoe and an ADM MQD mount which offer the most versatility. Using these, it takes seconds to swap the RH25 from being helmet-mounted to weapon-mounted. The Pictail is also required to mount this thermal to a typical dovetail for helmets.

Helmet Mounting

With its reduced weight and enhanced ergonomics, the RH25 V2 is well-suited for extended helmet-mounted use. The RH25 comes in at 11.3oz (12.3oz with Pictail) which is less than the 12.5oz of a PVS14 excluding batteries. The redesigned eyepiece significantly improves the viewing experience, making the thermal image clearer and easier to see when walking around. The 80% larger viewing area not only minimizes eye strain but also provides a more immersive and natural field of vision. This helps keep the image visible even as your helmet bumps around a little.

Left is the original RH25, and the right is the new RH25 V2 with the bigger eyepiece

Among the many upgrades in the V2, the USB-C compatibility stands out as my favorite. This feature enables the use of external battery packs, extending the runtime from 6 hours to over 20 hours, depending on the power bank (approximately 1 hour of run-time per 565mAh of capacity). Additionally, it allows me to remove the internal battery, redistributing weight to the back of the helmet. This adjustment reduces neck strain, a game-changer during long pig hunts that often last from 4 up to 10 hours. This is how I have run the InfiRay MH25 for hundreds of hours out hunting over the past few years with great success.

Left is the original RH25, and the right is the new RH25 V2 with the USBC charging port

Running the RH25 V2 and Nocturn Industries Tanto on my helmet

Clip-On

The V2’s higher-resolution display shines in clip-on mode, minimizing pixelation when zooming through magnified optics. It also offers up to 4X digital zoom for longer-range shots. However, with thermal imaging, doubling the magnification comes at the cost of halved clarity. This is because the sensor resolution remains fixed, and zooming simply enlarges existing pixels. For this reason, and to preserve a wider field of view, I usually stick to the unit’s base magnification. Being set at 1X, the RH25 is ideal for pig hunting offering a wide field of view. Coyote hunters may find this less than ideal for longer shots.

Picture of 6 different reticle options onboard the RH25 V2

Clarity and Video Recording

The RH25 V2 provides impressive clarity for a thermal device of its size, though it’s important to understand the limitations inherent to compact thermal systems. While the image quality is excellent for close to medium ranges, the finer details can become less discernible at extended distances. The device is equipped with a high-resolution 640×512 thermal sensor, paired with a 12-micron pixel pitch, and an improved NETD rating of ≤15mK. This combination allows for reliable detection and identification within practical ranges, making it well-suited for versatile applications such as scanning, tracking, and close-range engagement.

Picture taken of cattle at approximately 15 yards

Another standout feature of the RH25 V2 is its ability to record videos with sound. This adds a valuable dimension for those who want to document their hunts or training sessions. The onboard microphone captures clear audio, making the recorded footage more immersive and useful for playback. Whether you’re reviewing your hunts or sharing highlights with friends, the RH25’s recording feature makes it a well-rounded option for capturing your experiences in the field.

Screenshot taken from video of wild pigs with the closest one at around 40 yards

Real-World Performance

Where this thermal truly shines, in my experience, is as a helmet-mounted monocular. This was the primary reason I purchased the original RH25, and it remains my preferred use for the updated V2. Mounting thermal imaging to your helmet provides a seamless and efficient scanning experience, which has been invaluable during hunts. I’ve successfully spotted and stalked numerous pigs and coyotes using it in this setup.

READ MORE: White/IR Weapon Light: Armytek Parma C2IR Pro Review

Screenshot taken during stalk up on wild pigs while the RH25 V2 was mounted to my helmet

While some thermal scopes offer sharper clarity or higher base magnifications, the RH25 V2 stands out for its unmatched versatility. For those seeking a multi-role thermal device, this would be my top recommendation. That said, for dedicated hunting, I still prefer a thermal scope with a larger objective lens and greater native magnification. While the RH25 V2’s detection range of 1,375 yards is impressive, identifying animals at those distances can be challenging. Dedicated scopes typically provide a much greater identification range. This makes it easier to determine whether it’s worth stalking a pig or if the heat signature belongs to a lone, wandering cow.

A Note on Shooting Configurations

When transitioning between standalone and clip-on modes, users should note that the RH25 V2’s display adjusts automatically. In clip-on mode, the display aligns seamlessly with your day optic once properly collimated. However, if the unit is mounted in front of a scope and switched to standalone mode, the RH25’s reticle may not align perfectly with the scope’s crosshairs. For instance, I found the thermal reticle to be slightly low and to the right of my Vortex 1-10’s reticle. While this might seem like a misalignment, the image shifts between modes to maintain accurate zeros for both setups. If you accidentally use standalone mode while the RH25 is clipped onto your day scope, rely on the thermal’s reticle rather than the LPVO’s for accurate targeting.

Once the RH25 is collimated, the rifle zero may not align with your reticle, but that is alright.

RH25 V2 Conclusion

When it comes to thermal optics, no single device excels in every scenario.
