Before he could get a word in, the suspects opened fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bullets flew in the residential neighborhood, with one striking a jack-o&#8217;-lantern outside the home. Covarrubias fired back at the suspects, who fled in what he believes may have been a black BMW. It&#8217;s unclear whether any of his shots hit the suspects, who remain at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-see-also-new-kimber-cd59\">SEE ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsamerica.com\/digest\/new-kimber-cd59\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"video-business-owner-exchanges-gunfire-with-supected-burglars\" title=\"Video: Business Owner Exchanges Gunfire with Suspected Burglars\">New Kimber CD59!<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My son\u2019s out here, you start shooting at me&#8230; obviously, that\u2019s when things go off in your head, and you\u2019re like, hey, I have to respond,&#8221; Covarrubias explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Precinct Two Constable&#8217;s Office has confirmed that Covarrubias was within his rights to protect his property. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, they urged caution, warning that homeowners should be mindful when confronting intruders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We don\u2019t know what they\u2019re carrying.
