The groups intended to fight each other in a gang-style fistfight.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-gunfight-among-minors\">Gunfight Among Minors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A 21-year-old man found himself in a fight with an unidentified minor. According to<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox7austin.com\/news\/buda-shooting-no-murder-charges-filed\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"texas-shooter-receives-no-charges-for-death-of-minor\" title=\"Right Call? Texas Shooter Receives No Charges For Death Of Minor\">Fox7<\/a><\/em>, the minor\u2019s cousin, 17-year-old Erick Marin, pulled a gun on the 21-year-old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Videos posted online show that Marin shot in the direction of the 21-year-old. Then, multiple others drew firearms as well and began shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 21-year-old got his hands on a gun and shot Marin, effectively stopping the fight. Police responded to a 911 call of a shot fired. They found Marin there, in a drainage ditch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ghastly-aftermath\">Ghastly Aftermath<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Marin died shortly after the fight. His family expressed distress and confusion over his involvement in the fight. Marin\u2019s mom, Anna Mendivil, spoke to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kvue.com\/article\/news\/local\/no-murder-charges-teen-killed-buda-texas-erick-marin\/269-2ce3559c-06b4-459f-ab11-499d5a234902\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"clickTracking\" campaign=\"texas-shooter-receives-no-charges-for-death-of-minor\" title=\"Right Call? Texas Shooter Receives No Charges For Death Of Minor\"><em>KVUE<\/em><\/a> about her son.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This argument was about family,&#8221; Mendivil said. &#8220;He was protecting his siblings.\u201d She described her son as a boy who took care of people. \u201cIt wasn&#8217;t about drugs. It wasn&#8217;t about money.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mendivil was adamant. &#8220;It was about family. That&#8217;s how loyal my son was to his family. He gave up his life for his sister&#8217;s.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-acting-in-defense-of-another-minor\">Acting In Defense Of Another Minor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When others showed her the video of the fight, Mendivil argued that her son had acted in the defense of others. According to Mendivil, one of the other minors in the fight was Marin\u2019s younger sister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the aftermath of the fistfight turned gunfight, police had a lot of investigative work to do. They successfully identified all of the youths involved there that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities have not publicly announced any identities besides Marin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-shooter\">The Shooter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest question was what would happen to the 21-year-old who shot Marin?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After diving into the details of the case and Texas law, the county made a choice. Under their interpretation of Texan law, the 21-year-old had acted in self-defense. He is not receiving any charges as of right now.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, the \u201cno-bill\u201d vote, or decision to drop charges, came from the Hayes County Grand Jury.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-we-don-t-always-agree\">We Don&#8217;t Always Agree<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This decision is upsetting to many, including Mendivil. &#8220;I don&#8217;t understand why the one that&#8217;s the 21-year-old, why he&#8217;s not the one getting charged with murder,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t believe in the justice system right now. Texas Shooter Receives No Charges For Death Of Minor\"><em>CBS Austin<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-was-right\">Who Was Right?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Terrible things happened that day. It affected more than one life or family. We know that some people will argue that the gun is the issue in the scenario.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if we are to believe reports, the 21-year-old who shot Marin didn\u2019t even own a gun.
